I'm hoping to get a little better fuel economy and some extra power for my 2006 Ford E250 with the 2V 4.6. This isn't a Mustang, crown Vic,  or even an F150 so I'm not trying to eek out every ounce of power.

What options are out there if any? What do people like?

It looks like Superchips offers a tuner with some canned tunes for F150s, but it's not clear to me if it works for the E250. Is there any difference in this application anyway?

5 Star Tuning is well known in the Ford tuning world. I'm sure they could help your 4.6 E250.

I'm pretty sure that the Ford engineers would have eked every bit of economy and power possible from the tune without hurting longevity, because there is a strong financial incentive to do so thanks to CAFE.  Being in a van is probably the worst possible case for heat management, so what you might get away with in a pickup might not fly in a van.

 

Just sayin'. 

 

Because of production tolerances/variances, there might be some power/economy to be had by optimizing your MAF transfer table, but this isn't something that you can do with a canned tune, this would be you (or someone you are paying) going in and datalogging and tweaking.  I have seen some benefits from this, but it is very much a vehicle specific situation, and you need to start with a new or thoroughly cleaned MAF element (from Ford, not Bob's MAFs R Us off of Facebook) and a new air filter and new spark plugs/coils and new O2 sensors... at which point you might find your economy and power have improved anyway, even without a tune.
