Frank Camper built a Super that races lemons here in the SE. It's very quick, seems to handle well, and explodes A LOT. He keeps saying it's the drivers giving the car hell. This past weekend rod 3 came out to say hi!

I'm still excited about this concept, I bet you could microsquirt one and have a sweet digital dash setup as well. Cages seem plentiful and cheap. I wonder what else it takes to keep the glued down? Clearly they can be, this one just did 155. Big wing aside, venting front fenders? Diffuser?
More inspiration:
Here's that sweet Subaru swapped one, seems to have 944 pieces under it.
First, I will get some pictures on my next trip to see the car. It is yellow. It has almost 40 years of development and my head is still spinning with the details. It is in fact Bill and Diana Cadenhead's bug. This is not the first time I have become the care taker of a car, but this one comes with some serious history. I get the car and they are keeping the trophies. Lots of them.
I will be refreshing only what it takes to get it back to our local events, running it in our "Vintage" class with a HCR, Heritage Class Race index. It was built to run in EP with the SCCA and is a legal 1650lbs with a 1600cc motor. It is sitting on a square set of 8 inch rims and old Avon tires. All legal for HCR. It comes with a set of 10" rims for the rear, just in case I have to drive it at a Pro Solo.
The trans mission is running a close set up for the 2/3 shift and it has a clutch type LSD. Beyond that, I will be learning how to bend a bug around an auto cross course. I just have to learn to keep an eye on the cylinder head temperature and turn on the electric fans. Bill tells me it takes 10hp just to run the mechanical fan that might also act as the generator, so he left it off.
How can I argue with all the trophies.
The stars, are aligning.
The car is available and the funds are too. I Know that is in need, but it's a VW.
How bad could it be?
Check out FJcamper on shoptalkforums
he has road raced a Karmann Ghia for years and has lots of experience of what works and does not work.

Just a crazy thought.....could you put an electric clutch/pulley on the generator and then turn it off at the start line?
This is not the norm, I am paying for the car on Tuesday and it will be staying right where it is. My truck is broken and getting that fixed is a complete unknown.
But I am so excited. This car has so much history.
Yes, newer cars will circles around it but it's part of auto cross lor.
I can't wait...
There was an article a ways back, I think titled "Water Bugs", about road racing ACVWs.
By "a ways back" I think 1998 or so?
