I have a Nissan 240sx that I race on a 1/4 mile paved oval. I know I know, stock cars...pointless... redneck etc. All I can say is you should try it. Anyway, I am in a stock class and we need to run a stock tire. We are limited to a 65 series tire, and I am using a 205/65r15. I am considering moving up to a 215/65r15 since I am getting quicker and I am on the rev limit right now. So I am looking for suggestions. I need a stiff sticky tire in that size. They are not really very common. (which is why we have to run them) A lot of cars are using Falken Ziex, which may or may not be the grippiest, but take the abuse really well and do not self destruct. I tried a Toyo Versado which really stuck well, but was gone in a couple race nights. The shoulders usually fly off in chunks right down to the cords. I have some Bridgestones on there right now which have stood up well but are apparantly coated with grease. So I need a speed rated tire for the stiff sidewall, but not necessarily a soft compound for durability. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Any limitations as far as treadwear numbers or anything? We are just about to change up our rules a wee bit, since one of the rules is, "no directional tread." The rules were kinda designed to force us to Cooper Cobra's, but we found the Sumitomo HTR200 to be faster. Both are either discontinued, or very size limited.
Nitto NTO5's on my 68 Camaro. Ran well at Goodguys autocross thisweekend. Automatic trans downshifting limited performance but tires stuck well. Check out Utube Snake skin green camaro
does the Dunlop Dirizza starspec availible in a 65? I have been VERY impressed with them on the BMW
We need 200 treadwear or better. I tried your 2 suggestions but neither in my size of course. I have just decided on the Falkens again, but I am going to angle shave some camber into them just for kicks.
Thanks for the input.

Dunlop makes a sporty looking winter tire, but not the Dirizza in my crappy size.
nissanroadracing.com theres a couple crazy guys running roundy round s13's. Ask them if they have any better ideas.

Shaving those tires may help with your chunking problem. Large tread blocks will do that if they're over heated.
Running higher psi in the tires may help. Most tracks rules will let you interchange the right front spring. If the track will let you, find a way to stiffen the right front spring. Doing that will prevent the tire from rolling over on the sidewall and help with the chunking issue as well..
Well I went with the true and tried Falkens again. But I shaved them to 40%, which will save the tread a bit. I was going to attach a photo of my tire on the big grinding machine but I can't seem to do that here?
