Everyone seems to want to buy a 4 door, 4wd truck...and the prices show it.
There seems to still be bargains to be had (or at least reasonable prices) on single cab trucks that are just rwd. Shopping one of these might be cheap enough that you can keep the Montero too.
In reply to John Welsh :
FINDING 2wd trucks is easier said than done
In reply to John Welsh :
That Youngstown truck is an 8.1 with the Allison, no part of that powertrain would ever know it was towing my RX-7.
and I'd check the brake lines and frame for rot
In reply to dannyp84 :
It could tow the Montero, towing the RX7!
I might search craigslist in Texas and Florida for cleaner trucks if the cost is not substantially higher for solid rocker panels and non rusted bolts.
In reply to dannyp84 :
Phoenix and Las Vegas too.

Realize that single cab 2 wheel drive newer 1/2 T truck can outpull older 3/4 Ton pick up with a more comfortable ride, better fuel mileage, cheaper and more durable parts.
In reply to frenchyd :
and cost twice as much. IF you can even find one.

Even just NC and TN will get you a cleaner truck.
If truck shopping a couple hundred miles from home, I would just drive down a fwd car to shop and if you find a truck, rent a uhaul tow dolly and tow back your fwd car with your new truck.
Or, drive down the Montero pulling an empty trailer. Once you buy the truck, use trailer to tow home the Montero
Big straight six Trailblazer. Climb and descend in 3rd to save the little autotragic and go into overdrive on flat roads only.

I like the 4200 but not a fan of the vehicle it comes with, or the axle captured by the oil pan design. For now I'm keeping an eye out for a clean "cat eye" Silverado rwd
