I can't be the first to post this can I? McLaren just anounced that they have signed a long term agreement to partner with Honda again in F1 starting in 2015. So HOnda will be supplying the engines and KERS for the cars. Wish they could go back to the classic Malboro orange and white too.

Funny thing is accross the top of the press release is the current team name 'Vodafone McLaren Mercedes' then a long article praising Honda

Wait, the turbo sixes come in for 2014, no?

Does that make for a super-weird year for McLaren (and Mercedes) next year, trying to work with Mercedes on integrating their new engine just to turn around and switch a year on?

I guess a season is a season, and they'll all do what they can. It's a short-turnaround sport...

Yep, Mercedes V6 power for one year, than on to Honda.

Yup, I guess so.

It's great that another manufacturer is coming back to the sport so we will be back to 4 engine suppliers in 2015, after losing Cosworth for only 3 in 2014.

I was having an offline conversation with Tom Spangler, now both Indy cars and F1 are going V6 turbo's it's a pity they didn't choose common engine regs so they could have cross pollination of engine suppliers. It would be great for the Marussia’s and Caterham’s of the world if they could buy an off the shelf Chevy, or how cool would it be to have Ferrari engines in Indy cars for the first time since the 50's?

I won't lie. I'm excited about the announcement and probably look back on the old turbo Honda days with rose-tinted glasses.

That said, if Honda's last two years in the sport and/or McLaren's current car are any indication they're going to have to get their collective E36 M3 together.

In any case, it's certainly good for the sport.

Does this mean that a decent CR-Z is on the horizon?

Please, no. Plenty of threads about that already.

Because it takes several threads to list it all out.

I was never a fan, but please don't bring back the 'new' Senna!!

Alain Prost has a son Nicolas Prost who seems to have some of papa's talent and is currently the Lotus F1 test driver, now that I could root for, a new Prost at McLaren. There's also a 3rd generation Hill, a 2nd generation Mansel etc.

I like(d) Senna from a spectator standpoint, but I'm sure I'd feel differently if I had to drive alongside him. I don't think Senna's tactics would fly these days anyway. Also, even as a Ayrton fan I think that with the movie out Prost has been under-appreciated by most.

As a Honda employee, I'm quite pleased.

Did you watch HerShoeMaker over the years. He made Senna look like a good clean racer and helps keep Senna off the bottom of my least favorite driver list. Senna was an awesome talent, a wonderful generouse person off the track, but as a racer, he was dangerouse to himself and those around him. Unfortunatly I think he made it acceptable for people like Shumacher to get away with raming, pushing, crashing people off the track to win.

But back to McLarne Honda, I think it's great for the sport and I love that they are coming back

I fully endorse both of these sentiments.
