There's a die cast available: current fleabay listing
Wrong color, but otherwise looks pretty close. I've never tried it, but it seems like a careful disassembly and repaint should be possible. Way easier than a "scratch build".
This is an awesome model. Highly recommended. Tamiya 1/20 Lotus Type 79:

It has been 40 years since I could find any real fault in a Tamiya kit. Less detail than I might prefer, but everything that is present is correct, and they all build well.
I like model cars, but even those are a bit expensive for my taste.
I just finished this, spent $4.50 on everything.
In reply to TopNoodles :
Kit prices have gotten really hard to stomach in the last 10 years. I have enough stashed from as long as 60 years ago that I can build without buying. The $1.99 Testors paint bottles is bad too, thanks EPA....
Made it to "body in white" stage today. Now just working on the livery. I'm hoping to have it done in the next few days. I'd like to display it like this, but would also like to build some sort of period correct "stand" for the rear bodywork. If any of you can google-fu me up some 70's F1 garage picks, that would be awesome. My google-fu is weak.
Headquake shows all of us who’ve built model cars that we’re just doing it wrong:

I finished the Moulin Rouge 'Cuda:
I made sure the Hemi was wired in the correct firing order as well. Can't have any misfires.
In reply to TheRX7Project :
Dude, I love that 'Cuda! Amazing work, bravo!
Don't mean to make this into a "build tread", but I'm pretty happy with how this is turning out:
It's been a great build BUT laying down scale pinstriping is NOT FUN. This thing has YARDS of it. Almost done, though.
That looks great! I can't imagine laying out all that pinstiping
I did some 1/43rd scale model car work on this week's Miniatures Monday.
The Lotus F1 JPS looks amazing!!!!

Great looking models, guys!
After 50 years of building airplanes, I finally burned out and started building cars last fall. My first (other than a couple of Revell Reynards ~15 years ago) was a 1/24 AMT Lola T8800 with decals from Indycals. Sorry, the crappy cell phone pic doesn't do the Day-Glo paint justice.
An then a 1/24 Fujimi Porsche 917K:
Just finished the Platz BMW M6 GT3 last night. Of course, right before I took the picture, the clear part for the green LED class light bar on the right side of the windshield fell off. Oh, well.
This showed up for my birthday, so it's likely "next up":
Kazoo Jr. is going to work on this one at the same time:
Further bulletins as events warrant.
This is a 1/25 scale Diamond Reo kit. I shortend the wheelbase, spent too much time masking little squares, and made the decals with Testors decal paper. The side mirror frames are stainless wire, and the trailer air line is heavy electrical wire.
This is a repainted 1/50 scale Corgi diecast bus. The silver siding is bare metal foil, the decals were made by someone on a model bus message board, and the radio box on the roof was made from Evergreen strips.
An AMT Olds stockcar with wheels and a roll cage from a newer nascar kit. The windows are cut from thin sheet plastic, the grill is aluminum screen, and the interior tin work is from an aluminum pie pan with the beads “rolled” into it with a toothpick. The GRM and Oval Speed decals were printed on Testors paper. Oval Speed is a circle track supplier on Long Island.

I hope you are coming to NNL East. The Purina truck will be especially wll received.

I'm hoping to make it down again this year. The last few I have been stuck at work.
I did another video on my 1/43d scale AMX model build.
I built a ton of models as a kid.
Cold weather occasionally leaves me without enough to do, and I dig into the stacks of unfinished/unstarted models I have in a closet. So far I've only finished two, this Nomad (an OLD AMT kit) and this '99 Impreza rally car (vintage 2002 Tamiya).

Dude, those are both really great builds!
In reply to Wally :
Please, please, please post more of your work. The tin work in the Olds is phenominal!
My contribution: Learn how to decant spray paint so you can brush it on.
JPS is officially done, complete with Mario's melon bucket.
