You should look into taking a classic American car to Norway with you and flipping it over there. There is a big enthusiast market in Scandinavia for these cars and even with the shipping, tax, etc. you should still make money. BTW - I hope they are paying you well. Norway is crazy expensive for everything.
yes salary is adjusted for cost of living. ive been there a bunch, it is indeed expensive. im actually transferring within the same company. if i do it as an expat / temporary employee i may even be able to pocket a good chunk of change.
youre right, every car enthusiast ive met over there LOVES american cars, unfortunatley i dont know any well enough to get guidance from them to help me in the import process. if anyone here could give some suggestions that would be a start. between shipping, storage, paperwork, taxes, and above all 40+ hours of online research in norwegian, taking a car with me just sounds like a huge hassle on top of an ordeal that is going to have a huge hassle associated with it. additionally im trying to scrounge together as much cash as possible for the move and dont really need another 10k of it tied up. i may still be looking into it but unless i can convince myself id be making at least $5-10k (maybe it could pay for the car mentioned here...) its probably not worth it to me.

This question is easy:
ST185 was mentioned on the first page, ST205 is a much better and prettier car.
While I really like the 205 gti I'm more partial to a 106 rallye or a 106 S16. If I was going that is what I would look for.
About the avant time.. its be recognised as a really good car but did not sell well because even the frenchs found it fugly... i think its just a funny weird loooking car wich make it cool to drive. Like driving a hotdog car or a dogvan like dumm and dummer.
;)
In reply to BTD:
unfortunately im finding that i cant be too picky. for instance i cant even find a celica for sale. models like gt-four (and cosworth, EVO, etc) seem really hard to find so are mostly going to require some luck, and a wide casting net. BUT i am thankful for the input in case i do come across one. but that being said, i think it would be fun to buy a car in another country and road trip it back at some point, so i am still glad for the idea.
i think not a lot of high performance models were purchased/imported in norway because they get taxed even more, which also leads the few that are around to be that much more expensive. also, norway is really a small country, populous wise, total population (including the far out northern mountain/arctic regions) is about the same as ALABAMA
that being said:
1JZ turbo soarer!!!!

Alright b, I'll trade you the 68' for the Z so you can sell it over there. Profit!
In reply to ol doc gully:
I've never driven one or even seen one in real life so take my opinion for what it's worth. I am a fan of small hatches. It may just be the allure of something that we can't get here but I have always been intrigued by them. I believe they are the right size and they should be pretty light. The 106 rallye will be an 8 valve engine while the S16 will be a 16 valve. The rallye is a very stripped down car, it will be loud and rough but I believe it would be very fun to drive. The S16 will be the more tuned version, alloy's vs. steel wheels, different front and rear fascias. The 16V engine will have a little sweeter sound, especially in the upper RPM range where the 8V has a more tractor like sound. The 16V makes about 15 more HP over the 8V but the S16 will be a little heavier. Both are under 2k pounds.
In reply to ol doc gully:
That one may not be so good, it has some rust and water leaks into the cabin. It's more of a project but it does look good in that picture.

In reply to Nick (LUCAS) Comstock:
Yeah, it was just a good enough looker to get me on board with the idea. doubtful on being able to find a S16 or rallye though

I agree I sold my ST205 last year because i couldn't bring it back to the states and to say the least it was a fantastic car. My only issue was that replacement parts where sometimes hard to find.
ok, will keep my eyes peeled for ST205 or ST185, lots of celicas around but no special/sport models
havent been able to find a pug 205 GTi, only one non-GTi but still looking. seen a couple volvo 240s but i need to do more research on what i would be looking for as far as a volvo.
as currently limited to what i can find posted for sale on finn.no, this may be in the lead:
1998 subaru impreza GT (turbo) wagon (GF)
http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=68767819&price_to=100000&year_to=2000&make=0.810&ref=fas
or this haha beautiful 76 RHD MG

Anything RWD Volvo with a turbo and 5 speed should be easyish to find and will be old enough and valuable enough to bring back. The newer the better so 740/940. The later 940/960/S90 had a 5 speed unavailable here that sold for $2500 by itself last I checked. Euro lights with wipers on early cars are valuable too, along with other euro-only options.
Not really aiming to bring it back, but if its a rare enough model that falls into the perfect time period I might.
Good call, turbo seems to be always of tge same spelling so I found some good volvos just by searching for that

Taxes seem to be based primarily on whether it's over 1200kg or not and how old it is, priced em out for that Volvo 240 i found and was only 1500 nok or so
