So I have been working on some car deals for the last 6 months or so. The final tally is?  Well not really sure so here goes.

It started 6 plus months ago with me having a deal in place to purchase a 72 911t

Actually strike that it started a year ago when I kind of accidentally purchased a z4m coup. It was kind of a flip and/or maybe a keeper if I liked it but really it was because a friend needed money. Then fast forward a bit and the above 911 came available

So the deal was done with the 911 but no title means no money changes hands. That was in June.  The seller was a 30 plus year friend. This deal fell apart when my friend passed at the beginning of last month with the title comming in the Friday after he passed but with everything ending up in probate I basically have walked away from that deal as the family thinks it is worth what a perfect matching numbers car is worth and it being a roller with a fair amount of patina.

So I find by self with a pile of not spent $$$ and a Z4Mcoup.  So I decided to go get my wife her dream car and one just so happened to come in to the hands of another friend of mine that is a high end car broker as part of a deal that he made acquiring a very expensive Ferrari. The car in question is a low millage 06 G500 with a facelift to a late 20 teens spec.  So I traded my Z4 and my H2 for the G Wagon.  Now my wife is happy and I am down a net of one car. I never liked the H2 and I just never liked the z4. It is a just not a car for me so it was a great trade for me.  Get rid of two cars I was happy to see go and get one that will make my wife happy.

But remember I still have a pile of cash lying there from the failed 911 deal.  And while I was over getting the g wagon I test drove a 2017 GMC Yukon SLT.  Very Low millage every option like new condition and I will be picking it up Tuesday.   So this will become my new family truckster.

But wait there is more.  In another separate deal I also ended up with a Morgan plus4. Don't know why I got it other than it is just a cool car and was very cheep.  It needs a little work as it had a small carb fire. So some wires a carb and a little paint on the hood and it should be good to go.  Should be a fun summer car.

Then there is a Audi wagon that I may have agreed to purchased a month ago for my son that seems to have finally turned up.

So I now need to figure out what to do with the Saab wagon. Keep it at the office as a company car?

I also have a 2017 RAV4 I will be gifting to my daughter for Christmas as she basically kidnaped it when she went to college 6 years ago and never came home. (She now has a great job with the state of NY.).

It has been a crazy year with cars for me.  I am still on the hunt for a 911. I looked at a manual trans 850i today.  One of my friends/contacts in the car world called me today all excited telling me he has a rare alpha coup of some sort that I need to buy because he just picked up two of them in a deal to get some other car.  Not sure about owning an old alpha but it can't be worse than a Morgan right?

Well the year is not over yet but it has been a wild ride as we come to a the close of 2024.

In reply to dculberson :

We will see. Never owned one of these.  It comes with the previous owners parts stash and I have been told all the parts needed to fix the carb fire are with the car.

What I want to know is why it had a carb fire in the first place?  Poor seal or stuck float puts fuel on a hot motor or on the ignition?  I need to get that sorted.

Drove the wife's G Wagon this morning.  I want to hate it but I think I like it.

I'll never understand the G-wagon appeal but it sounds like an eventful year and fun turning of the fleet.

I kinda wish the GRM board would become a place for vehicle trades. I may have to propose some and make it happen.

I am thinking I should do a "honest" review of the G wagon. Is it a I want attention and to be seen vehicle?  Yes it is. You get attention driving this thing. But beyond that it is a very unique vehicle that does some things extremely well and for some people it may actually be easier to drive than many other suv type vehicles.   The biggest plus is visibility.  It is probably one of, if not the best vehicle for visibility I have ever driven and as such it immediately feels smaller than it is. There is no guessing where a corner of it is. It is a thousand times better than the H2.  That alown makes it so nice to drive!!!  I have a lot more to add about this thing both positive and negative. Like I said I went in to this being not impressed with it. I was certain I was not going to like it.  Well let's say it will never be my choice of vehicles but I think I am developing a respect for what it is and what the vision of the engineers was.
