To be fair, they do make smaller modern trucks, like the Ridgeline:

That looks like a '67 Chevy half ton in front.  I had one of those.  Ol' Yeller. It was not a small truck, even by today's standards.

The big change I see is in the Toyota trucks.  The RN Truck I have is a fraction of the size of a new Tacoma, which is about the size of an early Tundra, or certainly a T100.

Even that Ridgeline is still larger than the c10 in SVreX's pic

The Ridgeline is a minivan with the back lopped off.  However, frankly it's all the "truck" the many people will ever need, so it makes sense in the right situations.

It's funny what's called a truck.  My Chevy HHR is registered as a truck. Go figure.  And yeah, the heavy duty trucks of today are massive.  It's scary to think how much weight someone with a fully loaded F250 can be pulling with nothing more than a standard drivers license.

Toyota has really been Wumbo-ed in size in the last decade. Chevy is trying to go taller, but thankfully the Colorado is still a decent size. The Ford F250s tho, are absolutely fitting the troupe.

The Tesla CYBERTRUCK will blow it out of the water. Wacky thing is like, another 6 inches longer than the F350 or something like that.

This. Our Sierra makes my 78 look absolutely diminutive.

Also obligatory "that's not a REAL truck" Ridgeline comment.

just for kicks i looked up the length of C10s and Ridgelines. The Honda is 3" longer than a longbed C10. Huh.

Looks like in 40 years, the F150 has grown ~18" in length, 1" in width and 3" in height

I think whats makes new trucks seem so big is that nobody is buying the smaller ones anymore.  Its the ultramegacab 4x4 long bed dually.

I can tell you that theres more there than the overall numbers. The cab space is not joke. The 78 has 70 space and you will die in a crash. The GMT800 regular cab, even though not that much overall larger has a lot more interior room.

Yeah they've somehow filled out the cube a lot more so to speak.

My 13 f150 is the same wheelbase as my 96 F250 ex cab long bed and bigger in every way. Except turning radius, which is much smaller.

Bit haven't we had this conversation once a week for the past decade or so?

Could we look at truck size as a multiple of average weight for a US male? Give a year by year comparison?

If a truck is wider than 80" it is required to have amber identification lamps.  This is the reason that the 86.3" wide Ford Raptor has the 3 amber lights in the grill and one on each fender.

Not just trucks.  Go compare a modern Camaro to a 69 Impala some time.

The thing that caught my eye is that the hood of the Ram is quite a bit higher than the roof of the C10.

That's not the camera angle. I did my best to take an honest picture of it.

I also think those 2 trucks adequately represent common trends in both time periods.

The C10 was considered a good solid "real man's truck". It's not an El Camino or a mini truck.

And though the Dodge is a bit overdone, it's not that much beyond today's version of a "real man's truck".

Sorry. Don't think a Ridgeline counts.

Well, one's lifted and one's lowered. So yeah. You can also drive a Civic under a semi, I saw it in a movie :)

Still, people think my Cadillac is a big car. Maybe, but it's stock and I'm pretty sure the Sierra in this picture was as well.

I think registration is up to the local authorities.

My wife's 1999 3/4 ton Suburban is a car but my 2003 Tacoma is a truck, according to the socialist insurance company of British Columbia.
