I think i was more motivated before i had a garage of my own. I was lucky enough that if i could limp the vehicle 40 miles i had access too my dads garage. Having heat and a lift at work has made me lazy. This is a good reminder that even my tiny garage is better then a parking lot.

I'm very jealous of most people garages as well, I'm working with nothing more that a tiny concrete pad that only one half of the car fits on at a time, and all my tools either live in my DD or a small toolbox all they way on the other side of the yard in a shed
This was life for a lot of us. I started with hand me down tools on decaying asphalt and the scissor jack from the car. I graduated to a set of Craftsman hand tools that I got for Christmas my senior year of high school.
Similar here. I lived in apartments for the first 22 years of my life. I replaced the trunk floor in the family '71 Demon in the parking lot (attached with rivets). I replaced a water pump and starter in my '82 Subaru in that same parking lot. I replaced the heads and intake on a '71 F100 in the parking lot of one of our apartments. I installed a 6" lift kit on my '78 Ford in the back parking lot of the auto parts store I worked at. Over Christmas break in December.
Any work I do on my Grand Caravan is done outside since it doesn't really fit in my garage, although I do use one of my scissor lifts most of the time. It's one reason why I like having a scissor lift - I can easily move it inside or outside depending on my needs. Yes, I occasionally get some funny looks from people driving by.

I am one spoiled SOB! But I have been there. This thing was built in an unheated townhouse garage so small that the ass end of the car hung outside and the doors could not be opened.
I do not miss those days.
