Or, rather, it got unscrewed.

No sign of the screw during my first pass through the interior. Did I vacuum it up? Toss it into that container of misc. hardware?

My wife owned a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro that would randomly drop screws from the dashboard onto the floor mat.  Then you'd never figure from where.

In reply to David S. Wallens :

I'm pretty sure the remaining screw is a drywall screw, so you may have been screwed more than you realize.

LokTite is your friend.

Don't let a tech inspector see that.  You might get dinged for an illegal weight reduction.  laugh

I think that's the right head for those screws, I don't think it's been replaced with a drywall screw. IIRC those are machine screws and relatively short. I'm sure Tom's got one sitting under a workbench :)

I had one of those rattle out of my Miata once. I was going alone down the road and it landed in my center console. Fortunately mine was right there. I checked the other one, and it was loose, so I tossed a little blue Loc-Tite on both and reinstalled

Ironically, the latch screws (on either side) are notorious for being fused in place and have to be carefully finessed, lest you strip them out
