This was OEM on some model?
I've always liked the idea of placing a roots blower on a Subie like this:

But I'd never heard of the factory trying it. It seems appealing to me. More parasitic loss, but low end torque like they've never had before.
It's from a Subaru Pleo (see below), you'd need about four of them for a typical US market Subaru engine.
Could be really neat on a motorcycle engine though!
I bought one to mount on the Samurai. They are cute as a button.
Oh well. Still like the idea of a roots for a flat 4 though. I'd gladly trade some peak HP for an engine that doesn't wait for 3500 RPM to arrive before it kicks in.

Im pretty sure there are roots or screw type blower kits available for the FRS/BRZ.
Yes, there are blower kits for the EJ. A place in australia seems to be leader with this.

Edelbrock. If installed by an SAE shop, Edelbrock will warranty the engine for the remainder of the factory warranty. 250hp.

There was also a company selling Rotrex blowers for RS2.5s at one point
I remember there being a kit for the RS 2.5s too. Didn't it need a "bump" in the hood to clearance the pulley?
Not a subie... but this is all I think of when 'Roots blower' and 'flat four' are in the same sentence:
Not helpful, I know.
One of the main supercharger company i think it was whipple, around year 2000 had a kit for the 99 2.5rs . Sportcompactcars magazine test drove one.
Then the wrx came out..

I've seen and driven one but it was a couple years ago and I don't remember who made the kit. It looked like it was well engineered and was very responsive.
Now that I hav a crosstrek I've looked into power adders and the FB20 engine has a supercharger kit available in Aus. It's expensive as hell, and only bumps to 200hp (claimed) a member on xv forum is doing one.

AVO makes a turbo kit that bumps it to 200hp at the wheels.
I might have a go at fabricating a manifold and such to put a M62 on an EJ20. Seems like a fun project.
There's even a 300cc supercharger, the AMR300.
FYI the AMR500 is $188 on aliexpress. Damn cheap new.

Rumors from the Land of Oz say those fb20's don't like turbo boost because "it comes on too fast". I have a hard time believing that, since ANY motor can be turbo, and a supercharger can put out the same amount of boost as a turbo setup, whether said boost is linear or peak shouldn't matter. I like to think it's because of the Subaru "shops" not getting the tube right. As long as there is enough fuel, it should run right.
