I was just at Greenfield Village this weekend and plan to check out the Henry Ford Museum this weekend. I also went to Kart2Kart for their election day special. 6th fastest time of the week :). I'm considering signing up for their winter league.

I recommend the Michigan Sports Car Club and the DCSCC autocrosses. Laid back, friendly, and such.

The next MSCC meeting is the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm not sure the calendar works on my office computer. I'll have to check at home.

On the off chance it doesn't work, can you tell me where the meeting is?

Thanks!

So clearly I drive a Protege but I'm also building an E30.

I don't have any recent pictures on my pc, but some old ones can be found on my garage page.

If we are going to get into food...
Learn the ways of the Detroit Style Coney Island. You may not think much of them while they are available but nowhere else in the world can you get a Loose Coney. I miss them now that I am not there. Only eat Gyros from places that carve the meat right off the spiral. All other's are crap and even then there is a lot of variation.

Being a new guy, I recommend that you go to Miller's Bar on Michigan Ave (near Telegraph.) While there, ask for a menu, a carry-out order and/or something other on tap than Miller High Life...they have none of these things but the burgers are darn good.

When I was there, the original LaShish was still in business...something must have filled the void. You are in the Arabic center of the western world, get some good food. Specifically, look for Lebanese Food. Iraqi and Iranian Food is not as good. The Lebanese are the well known cooks of the Middle East. The difference here is similar to how lay-people refer to all food as Chinese and do not notice the difference between Thai, Vietnamese, etc.

Welcome to the Great Lakes State. The Snodrift Rally and ice racing are approaching. If you get to Flint there is a small museum called the Sloan Museum. They have some nice cars.

Sorry, La Shish is to Middle Eastern food was McDonalds is to American food, in my opinion. Go to Al Shallan, 24402 Warren (Warren and Telegraph) for simply amazing middle eastern food.
Since you're here in MI, check out the Gilmore Car Museum, about 2 hours west of you. Then, venture into Detroit and go to the Redford Theater. It's an old movie house that was restored by volunteers and is non-profit. They play old movies, but it's an experience.

Theater wise, also keep an eye on the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor (but I'm biased toward anything A2). There's a first Saturday gathering at a warehouse in Ypsilanti, where I store one of my cars. It was cool 5 years ago when I went, but have lost touch. Ann Arbor also has Rolling Sculpture in July- nice show.

Going the other way, the DIA is awesome. As is the DSO (if you are a symphony person). Don't be afraid of Detroit.

Lots o stuff to do here. Great area to live in.

Tell them what you pay in property tax, they'll join you here once they've stopped crying.

less than 80 days away!!!

We are blessed here for the rally nuts:

aside from up north and the UP with their beautiful roads and seasonal trails there are 3 stage rallies, a popular rallyX and TSD rally region all in one state!

The Detroit area is actually a good place to live. I live in Farmington Hills, and there's tones of automotive related stuff to do. Check out Woodward Ave on friday nights during the summer. You'll see every car ever made out there (seriously).

Oh and ill second Buddys pizza. I could live on that stuff.

Any chance your E30 is for sale? im in the market.... lol

You Lie!! I've never seen a McLaren F1, a genuine Ferrari Daytona spider or a Ferrari 288GTO. Other than that I think I've seen every other car ever made there including comon crap like Enzo's, F40's, Porsche 959's other tat.

Also Down town Birmingham and Down Town Royal Oak are great on Thursday nights in the summer for cars.

Autozone (Book shop not parts place) on Woodward in Birmingham is a sort of cars and coffee type thing every Saturday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 am in nice weather too.

Ok, I don't get the Buddies love. The sauce belongs UNDER the cheese. Bob's Pizza at 7 and Evergreen (it's rough there at night though) used to have incredible pizza. Haven't got a pizza from there in 15 years or so though.

One of my favorite things about living in Michigan are all the local festivals. We have gone to the Yale Bologna festival both summers we have lived here. The bologna on a stick is the highlight of July!
