I thought the more interesting part was that they revealed that in a job posting. Accident or clever marketing?

Not interested until after they deliver the rumored Courier/Ranchero reboot. 

Sales down 4.4%. I wonder how much of that is due to dealer gouging forcing customers to walk away.

What did they really reveal, though? I mean, we all knew a new Mustang had to be coming sooner or later, right? They've said over and over that Mustang wasn't included in Ford's carpocolypse, and the current chassis dates to 2015.

Here is just one Ford dealer in my area, literally every single V8 Mustang they have on their lot is being advertised at THOUSANDS below MSRP. Even the 2020 GT350 is marked $3500 off.

True. I just thought it was weird that the first announcement of release, MY, and chassis code was revealed in a job listing. Seems no one else found it interesting. No biggie.

What the berkeley? I didn't even look at that since I have no interest in a Roush car. I clicked on the first one that says $39k..............I clicked through the pictures to see the window sticker...........$81k.

That's my look on it, too.  It's the last car left, I don't see any reason to keep that a secret anymore.

It doesn't seem like it will take that much effort to put a Mustang body on an Escape chassis...

"Wind/road noise and air leakage plant vehicle team (PVT) engineer."  I think that translates to, "you will be fixing leaky weatherstripping."

Reminds me of when I interviewed with Chrysler my senior year of college 40+ years ago, it turned out the job would have been designing windshield wipers.  I'm glad I didn't take that career path.

That's exactly what made me realize I wasn't sure the automotive industry might not be for me. I didn't want to spend my time designing one hell of a door handle. Granted, I'm still early in my career (only 2 years out of school) so the temptation is there to give it a swing...

A big company like that will typically give you the benefits and salary to be worth it. Then with a bit of experience, you use that big name on your resume to land the gig you want. 

I'm not seeing anything secret being released.  Ford job posting about the new Mustang.  The timing was delayed but that had been announced too.   Platform sharing was noted two years ago.   What's news worthy here?  New platform nomenclature?  Maybe I've been in Detroit too long?

So you know, there is a lot more to build than door handles.  Some of us spent an entire career working on powertrains.

OTOH, I would not really suggest working in the industry for an enthusiast.  You find out that you are a gross minority of car people, and that they don't make any money.

That reminds me of a story one of my Chrysler instructors related during a training session... they meaning Chrysler was rolling out a new model back in about 85?, and my instructor was to just go over it as a demonstration overview so every engineer could see what the end product was as assembled. Everybody poured over it then at the end there was one lone soul left. He walked up looked at it and said to my instructor, "I just wanted to see the TPS I took 6 months to design without anyone else around."

There are lots of different jobs in car companies. A few of them are cool if you're a car person. The vast majority of them are just jobs.

I've been a big fan of Mustangs for years, both old and new, but honestly the S650 won't interest me unless they do some serious work to get the weight down.  3800lbs for a GT?  No thanks, even if the engine is magical.

Use more aluminum like the F150s and get the weight down.

I met a guy who spent 8 years doing outside vendor door handle manufacturing compliance. He moved to the oil industry and doubled his pay. That was a while ago when there were actually oil jobs, so not really a relevant story, but it was interesting at the time. 

As to the new Mustang. I wonder how new it will really be? Between FCA and GM and sales numbers and chassis innovation, it might appear to not be worth it to put a whole lot of effort into it.

If it is produced on the same platform as the Explorer, it seems like it will be more of a revolution than evolution of the current platform. And since the Explorer/Aviator platform already has PHEV options, it should be relatively easy to implement similar tech in the Mustang moving forward, which has supposedly been in the works for some time.

the good news if it goes on the explorer platform, you might get awd mustangs
