They have a classics race, then they have the big 24h race. Nothing like seeing a 60's Mustang on 70-series tires hauling ass around the 'ring while waving to the fans!

That makes sense. Although, I know of a few Alfas that were very "modernly" built under old bodies. No idea where they were supposed to run, since Europe has a rather strict classic set of rules.
Friday is the Historic race. German vintage racing is more like HSR than SVRA. basically, anything that isn't current is almost fair game.
Saturday are some support races and the 24hr. The 24 is a VLN series race, VLN being a nurburgring-based enduro series. Classes include FIA GT classes, plus classes for slower cars up to about 10 years old. There's specific allowances for certain older models like BMW E36s. Most of the rules for the cars that aren't the FIA GT3 monsters are pretty similar to Continental Challenge or World Challenge Touring and GTS. The end result, though, is you do have FIA GT3 cars out there with rather mildly prepped VW Golfs.
Rules limit the field to something like 200 cars that start in three groups. While that sounds like a lot, 200 cars in 16 miles (nordschleife + GP circuit) is only 12.5 cars per mile, which is the same density as a 30-car field at Road Atlanta, which is certainly not daunting.
