So this week I've been hauling a lot of junk into my favorite scrap metal yard, Ace Iron and scrap.
Weird group of cars there...
A group of Alfa Sedans...a bunch of older Benzes, from the 80's and 90's, some odd stuff...
A Suburban with 24" expensive wheels that was in decent shape, expensive wheels left on the thing when it went to the crusher for some odd reason...
A really clean 944 Porsche, that had a claw put through it's roof...
Several clean FWD Cadillacs. a few with low mileage and nice...
Several Jags...
A WRX (2004ish) that had been built into a rally car of sorts....was crushed, so I couldn't get a good look at the cage...but somebody had a bad day racing...
a 64ish Pontiac, think it was a Catalina, that had been made into a circle track car a long time ago...like back in the 70's. Went into the crusher before I could get a good look at it to tell anything about it...but a cool old car...
Anyone else see anything interesting in Junkyards lately?
Chris
There was a large whole (about 8 inches Diam) between a couple of VWs at the local salvage yard. Appeared to have been dug. Looked like the entrance to some kind of lair or nest. I'm staying clear!
Thats kinda near where I work, maybe I should stop by on my lunch break and see what kind of interesting things are out.

I don't know about odd... but I saw this at Rt 14 Auto Parts.
Shorty K-car
Volkswagen Type 2 camper van with a home made roof. Note the Beetle in the roof, the Chevy wheels, second rear door into the side (see rear view). Looks to me like it might be slightly stretched too. All in all quite the custom job.
Mercury Topaz. Gawd just look at it - sparkle paint, fake sheet metal hood. Looks like it used to have a bit wing on the back too. Belongs in the scrapyard.
there is a Rabbit Limo at the Pull-A-Part North Atlanta...
is it just me.. or does it look like that shorty K car is humping the bus?
Strangest thing I have seen in a yard was a DSM mounted to a jeep chassis
Been a couple years back, but I was surprised to find a nearly whole Maserati Biturbo in the yard down around Petersburg, and at CAP, a 4-cylinder Chrysler Limo based on a K-car.

I think some BiTurbos were delivered directly from the factory to the junkyard.
not exactly the best cars to come out of italy.. not say I would not want one to do an engine swap to
Amazing how some yards just toss the cars on the ground. The ones near me prop the cars up in the air so you can work on parts underneith. Have to give it a few good "pushes" before I slide under them lol.
Strange cars near me - several Porsche 924's just after the GRM article ran.
A few years ago, I saw two early 60's Cadillac Flower Cars.
I almost cried when the yard owner told me how he happy he was to scrap them due to the extra heavy sheet metal they were made with.

You mean they don't stack them three or four high?
the ONLY pick it apart place around here stacks them on welded together rims.. usuall one "leg" in the front and two in the rear.
The other half dozen yards around here all went to "no, you can't enter the yard"
Last time i went i saw ANOTHER MKiii Supra with a 4.3 Vortec swapped in.
It's strange, because i've never seen this swap in person running, but i've now spotted two in the junkyards. I want to know who's doing it.
4 door prelude
