OK, found the perfectly optioned car after months of searching, negotiated the price and got delivery and financing set-up, all that is required is the car to pass a PPI. The car is 2,400 miles away and the seller is fine with taking the car in as long as I pay to the PPI. I want to make sure that the car is as described. The price is great – not too great to raise any flags.

I called the local Audi dealer to ask about a PPI and they do not perform anything other than a quick visual inspection and no guarantees!

I liked the idea of a dealership looking at the car rather than a specialist shop as I figured they would be more likely to have mechanical, body and paint specialists. I also figured that they would do more of these, pretty much doing one on every potential trade-in and all the CPO cars.

Anyone know of a good VAG / Audi indy shop in the Pasadena, CA area?

Dealers often won't do PPI work on the basis of legal exposure if they miss anything. They say it's good, the engine grenades on the way home, you sue them...

I ended up at an independent shop when I bought my 525iT on Long island - I'm in DC

Is there another Audi dealer close? I have had dealers PPI the last three cars I have purchased long distance with no issue.

I had a ppi done at a BMW MC dealer for a fly in and ride back 700 miles in one day. They sucked. I generally do indy shops with a good reputation these days.
