A friend rear-ended a Subaru Outback with his 2014 Toyota Prius C this week (80,00 miles and in good shape prior to the accident).  I have not seen the car yet, but the pictures look like the front of the Prius went under the bumper of the Subaru.  The bumper cover, headlights, hood and core support are toast.  The fenders are fine, the radiator is bent but not leaking.  The air bags did not deploy.  My friend does not have collision insurance and it is now in his garage.  The tow company generously offered to remove it from the scene of the accident in exchange for the title.  Fortunately, he called me first, paid for the tow,  and I am looking at it tomorrow to help him decide whether to sell or fix.  My friend reported that it did not run following the accident.  My questions:

1. Is there a safety switch on the fuel pump or battery pack?

2. If so, how do I reset it?

3. Anything else to check for?

Thank you!!!

I have not experienced the same but here's a possibility.

12v battery is dead.

Is it possible that the car was never really turned off at the scene of the accident?  Imagine a traditional car remaining in the Accessory setting of the ignition.  So, the car was towed away and sat a few days running down the 12v battery the whole time.

I would begin with trying to jump start the car.

I have bought many Gen2 Prius with similar damage.  Slightly different car but none had anything like fuel cut-off from just a frontal impact.  All of mine were bought at auction so they usually sat for 2 months or more.  I had to jump start most all of them.  In most cases, putting the 12v battery on a charger was enough to revive the battery back to working condition and that is what I would expect for you.

Does the car turn on enough to play the radio?  If radio wont play...12v battery dead.
