Today just keeps getting better and better I know what I'll be watching tonight.
That was good. The tank straps were most excellent. The cross bolts were great.
I'm anxious to see what flares are going to look like. I'm expecting metal and I've not seen them use body forming tools yet so I'm anticipating something way way complicated that will involve loads of planishing.
I was visiting family when this was updated, so because im moving a long way away soon i was given control of the remote so i hit up moms fancy new smart tv for youtube to watch episodes 13. She gets about 15 min in and says, this is really boring. Wtf mom? This is awesome! Look at the effort they put into that fuel tank! She huffs and goes back to looking at her iphone while my brother watched (his first car was my handmedown 3sgte mr2, so after i explained wtf they are doing), he dug it.
Edit: forgot what i was getting at, her saying it was boring and i made a rough calculation of how long ive "wasted" watching these blokes...6.5hrs. Wouldnt change it for anything.
I thought you were supposed to fill a fuel tank with a special sealant and slosh it around if you made your own. I'm impressed Nik managed to get his air(!)tight just as a bare metal box, especially welding aluminum. Wonder how many "takes" that took?
It's a lot easier to get a proper seal if you TIG it instead of MIG. Plus there's no concern about the aluminium rusting.

Conversely, the next three months feel like years.

I was impressed when he used the TIG to weld the exhaust entirely without filler. Doing so probably makes a non-colander fuel tank easy, too.
Didn't they pressure-test the thing anyway, to be extra-sure?

Yes, I remember him plugging the various holes and then airing it up a few PSI, then making sure it held while they went off for a cup of tea.
