What's the preferred method these days? I've heard conflicting info on powdercoating aluminum wheels. I don't care about perfectly recreating the factory color; I just want to make some dirty old wheels look silver-ish again.

I am going to make my silver rims black. I assume it is just sand , paint and clearcoat. The only problem I see is matching the plastic hub caps. Maybe silver on black will look nice.

I did some the old fashioned way with progressive polishing. I started with a soft wire wheel on my die grinder and then worked my way up through several rouge grades. It took days but the outcome was very nice.

(but I didn't get them clearcoated in time and they looked like crap again in no time)
