Windows may be replaced with clear Lexan or polycarbonate that meets all safety requirements.
They "may" be replaced .. can they be removed? e.g I want to delete my rear hatch glass.. can I do it?

Greg Voth' RX-7 ran without a rear hatch...of course, he races it that way in chumpcar/lemons, and he ran in the lemons class at the $2011 challenge. Maybe that class has different rules. (sort of how the Specials class doesn't require headlights.) Hopefully Greg or Per can chime in here...
The rule actually states that for every square inch of glass replaced you have to put 10 lbs. of lead ballast in the car, I can choose the placement.
Good luck with that!
I believe our car was exempt since it was in the Chump/Lemons Class. Also why I couldn't run slicks or nitrous and stay in that class.
Don't know the official ruling. Per will have to chime in on that.
I'll throw my hat in with the "must be kept" group. When we ran the Civic in '09 it had it's heavy glass, and we definitely would have removed it if we'd been allowed.
I don't want to be a downer, but at least be aware that there is a safety aspect to this. This driver ended up in the hospital after an engine fire. He was running without a rear window and at speed the aerodynamics "sucked" the fire back into the car.
