$3k out here gets you the special lightweight version that has parts of the body removed via chemical processes (oxidation).
Even a half decent shell is > $1k.
This one in particular was 5k w/ extras. Which judging by the other examples available online isn't completely out of line. No rust that I could find and body was sealed up pretty well.
Good score on the Spec Miata. 
I need to buy one like that for the same price.
