I can't find any sub forum named alabama on nasa forums, is that what you meant?

Linky for you

of all things - it goes to a racing junk page for improved touring

I'm with the others - I don't intentionally go to racing junk

I'm in the same boat, with the same budget.

Have gotten the advice to buy a class-qualified car, not just a track rat. Even if you never intend to run wheel to wheel, this is supposed to help resale down the road, and to give some confidence that the car was put together correctly.

So far, I've figured out that some cars qualified to run in Spec Miata, Spec E30 and Camaro-Mustang Challenge fit the budget. You might also be able to find a Spec 944. Seems that some E30/E36 cars prepped for various other classes could be had at or slightly above that budget as well. Each of these classes has a website with a classifieds section.

Different racing classes will be more or less popular depending where you are.

It's pretty unlikely that any of these will be street legal, so if you really can't spring for a towing setup, you may ignore the above. I'm fortunate that I already have a prime tow vehicle (diesel Excursion).

Hey Teggsan thanks for the advice, I would love to run a 944 but I am a little worried about the maintenance involved on one of those. The timing belt needs to be done every 30k and they require so much work to replace, also the rear glass is a $1000 part, which im sure some yards have for cheaper but I just don't think that is going to fit within my budget in the long run.

Yeah I am having a hard time finding something that is street legel and a dedicated track car, I would like to get a tow vehicle maybe if i can find something cheap enough that will work out.

just came across this on CL needs work but the price is right if someone is looking.

It seems to me building to a class makes the most sense, even if not a specific road-racing class. My long-term plan for my E30 (unless it sells first) is to build it up for auto-x STX, but with a bolt-in cage for HPDE and TT events (pretty good hill climb season in PA).

One advantage of building to a class is it can help keep the mod-bug under control. For example, STX is fairly restrictive with regards to engine mods, thus removing that pricey temptation from the list.

What's your budget?

(Not that I have a really, really nice track ready, street legal Miata that I may or may not be interested in selling or anything....)

I'm trying to keep it under 10k total, including any repairs or work before it is track ready.

I have a Porsche 944Spec '88 924s up for for sale. Currently listed for $8,500, but I was about to lower it to $7,500. RWD, good on consumables, able to run in 944Spec and/or GTS. Already prepped, running, and competitive (in 944Spec, at least) with a current logbook.

Oh, and buying it gets me closer to brewing professionally and bringing craft brew to GRM events.
