Every time something like this happens the world gets a little less fun. We used to go around on pitbikes and now thats over, we used to use the space we needed, people abused that now there are assigned camping spots, dogs are outlawed, on and on till there's nothing left. It sucks.

No parent is going to be content their kid died and is a life lesson for another kid. I dream my kids will serve an amazing purpose to this world. dying in a stupid accident is not on that list. Thanks for leaving me with this garbage to think about right before I leave work.
I don't think any parent would be 'content' if their kid was involved in a scenario like this and got a helicopter ride to a trauma center. I pray that my kids go on to live long, successful lives and support my lazy ass when I get older. Hopefully all of our kids do the same.
I've had occasion to work with parents whose kids were seriously injured or died. Regardless of the details of the incident, families almost universally were grateful if circumstances allowed for some good to come out of their family's tragedy.

Yet some people are more concerned with passing judgement on both the parents and kids, and damage to a couple of karts. At least Kreb isn't the only other person who actually remembers remembers the stupid and dangerous things every one of us has done at least once in our life, that could have gone very badly had luck been any less on our side such that the series of events occurred even slightly differently. Yes the kids did something illegal and stupid, and yes they deserve some sort of consequences...But they certainly don't deserve what happened to them, nor the callous commentary of keyboard authorities who are so caught up in their own self-righteousness that they lack any sense of empathy, and my thoughts go out to the families involved. Hopefully the kids have a fully recovery, learn a valuable life-long lesson, take responsibility for their actions, and make restitution to the track.
This.
100%.
And if any of you never did anything stupid/irresponsible/borderline illegal things in search of fun when you were in high school....well, good for you. I'm sure we won't hear your stories about whatever you did. Sure, the world has changed and things that used to be "tomfoolery" or "pranks" are taken more seriously and have more consequences. But that doesn't mean 16 years olds are any more mature now then we were back then, or any less likely to do the stupid E36 M3 we did back then. This E36 M3 happens. Sometimes it ends in tragedy or death or injury (just like it always did). Sometimes it ends up in getting in trouble to one extent or another (just like it always did).
Could be that with the internet and 24-hour news we just hear about the consequences more now than we did in 1980 or whatever......because I"m damn sure I had many friends go to jail/juvie/court for stupid E36 M3 we did 20 years ago, and they had to do a hell of a lot more than write apology letters. But back then there weren't 50 internet sites cross-posting about it and putting it on twitter and facebook and everything. E36 M3 stayed mostly "local."
20 years ago none of us (except Lime Rock locals) probably would have even heard about this particular event, ever.
(looks across garage at stolen Italian highway sign from 1994 that probably caused someone to miss their exit from the Autostrade....)
The problem is that when you say "someone does not deserve it" lawyers get involved and the title to Limerock will be changing hands because the Lawyers convince a jury of our piers that they were just young innocent kids that did not deserve to get hurt.
Ya I am adding fuel t the fire. LOL
Relax everyone this happens every day around the country and no amount of keyboard preaching is going to change it. The legal system will work its way through. Hopefully the damaged kids will recover and this will just be a gad memory for a couple families and there kids.
