We need some plexi for our challenge build. Does anyone have a good sources for cheap plexi? Looking for a fairly big sheet, maybe 48x96 and either 1/8 or 3/16s thick.

Google hasn't been very helpful on this matter.

We were looking at lexan for windows and found some good prices on ebay about a year ago. Might want to check there again.

Might want to check for a plastic supply house. Should be several in B'Ham, big city and all. Plexiglas is not too expensive, Lexan is better but a good bit pricier.

McMaster-Carr has a HUGE selection, anything from little cubes to 4X8 foot sheets, in a huge variety of colors, and even with anti-fog coatings. As for pricing, I have no idea if they are high or not.

No, I do not work for McMaster - this is not a big ol' can of oe - but at work I order all sorts of things from their L.A. warehouse.

I've bought it from the local steel supplier. They supply machinery shops that use plastics for machined parts and guarding.

This. Check the yellow pages. There has to be a plastic supply house in town, and when you take shipping into account online sources may not be any cheaper.

What will kill you on ebay or some mail order place is shipping.

Try and find it as local as you can, big supply place is more better.

Call them and act stupid but kind and see what sort of scraps they have.

Enjoy.

Stop by that local plastics place (they're in your town, you just don't know where they are) and see what they have for off-cuts. Much cheaper than buying a 4x8 sheet or a custom-cut piece. Heck, if you tell them what it's for it just might get donated.

Depending on what part of the nation you are in a sign supply company would be your best bet. Try N. Glantz. Also a place like GE polymer shapes. ( they changed their name and I can't think of it right now. ).

Shower enclosure guys have full sheets and cut offs cheap as well. They use large pieces so scrap pieces big enough for car projects are often too small for their use.

Sometimes a place like Windshield World will stock it and even cut it for you. Some of the local roundy round guys here have paid $50 for a piece cut to fit there cars.
