Sorry, you seem to have let a grocery getter Datsun into your list of sports cars
Yes yes guys, I'm 83.2% joking with that.

And there is a 3800lb land yacht on the list.
77%....maybe 79% joking with that.
I'd prefer the grocery getter Datsun.
I would gladly trade 800 lbs for an extra 225hp. I've driven both and without questions would go with the GTO.
Short of getting a $15k tax return I doubt I will end up with one.

Ditto. Not even for the down payment either....
we're spending our tax return paying off the SeX.

I think the only car on that list you could realistically get into for tax rebate money would be the Fiat. The bigger question would remain what you've actually gotten yourself into
I think the Fiat 124 is the only sports car on that list but I would like to find one in my driveway one day.

+1
However (and I know this is blasphomy here) I am getting away from cars. Soon my 124 will be for sale and so will my volvo (keeping the saab though) asi get prepared to to buy and move onto a boat full time.
but first I am intending on spending my tax return on this

Got big plans for that tax refund?
.....plan on readjusting your deductions to get a smaller refund.
I've never seen our tax refund.
If you're getting a tax refund, I'd recommend making sure you've paid off any non-mortgage loans and have maxed out your 401(k) and/or IRA contributions before spending money on a(nother) car you don't need.

Because I told your girlfriend/wife/mom that I could never see her again

Seriously this, though I have never actually seen a tax return.
At least like last year I do not owe what amounts to a new luxury car this year.

Is this really the right thread for preachy money advice?

Wow...that's like at least 18 years of payments. Must be nice...my SeX payment book still has 15 years left in it.

This thread is one of the few places where it might actually belong on this forum... Alan brought finance/money into the conversation by tying the thread to our tax refunds. IMO, if we aren't already able to buy/afford a toy without using a tax refund, we are probably better off saving/investing that refund.
It's not like we don't have a bazillion other threads on this site that likely enable all kinds of questionable purchases. Those threads are where "preachy money advice" doesn't belong.
It doesn't have to have 4 wheels. A tax refund could do quite nicely here.

I get a little bitter during tax season.

Are you moving your free money to boats entirely, or are you moving onto a boat?
Either way, cool! And if it is the latter, I expect you to document the experience here.
I'm buying a roof. And who knew that picking out shingles would be so hard.
I'm getting new gravel on Thursday. Buying dirt is weird. I own multiple hundreds of acres of dirt on this planet, but I need a guy with a dump truck to bring special dirt for me to drive on.
I am spending mine if I get any on a honeymoon.
If mine goes into a car, it is likely to be small Chrysler with alot of room.
