Do all of your friends and family think you are insane like mine do? My wife likes to throw me under the bus at parties and lament about my car addiction. Although, if it weren't for me her VW would have gotten traded in for pennies a long time ago.
Yes
I hate when my wife mentions my constant car turnovers. Cuz then her idiot friend husbands wants to talk about them and I don't like talking car with non car people. No one will appreciate my Cressida wagon, subaru justy, or fx16 or rare two tone fj62 blah blah
I am surrounded by people who monthly lease $1500 cars and dump every 24 months
they are not car people, they are status people
few years ago told my wife to stop saying it at parties snd 90% of the time she's good with it these days.
And at work....they come to me for info as "the car guy" when something is wrong with their car or an opinion on what to get. I've fixed a bunch of little stuff for them on lunch break in the parking lot with my clear bag of tools. Only other car guys get it when they find a deal that they know they can fix up and make it the way that they want it until they get bored and do it all over again. Then when I complain of being sore from working on something my wife gives me the "I thought you liked doing that stuff?" lol

Haha man your wife and my wife are twins. I used to Complain to her exactly what you posted and she had the same reaction.
Best ones at work "what car should I buy?"
you give them logical options, thoughts, and their needs per their requests and they go buy something that is completely opposite of what they say they wanted
stopped playing that game 15 years ago.
now whenever people ask me what to buy I say "Korean," and they let me be and there is no follow up, since nobody here will buy Korean. So they think I have low iq (they are right) and nuts to suggest it. I love it. It means no follow up convo after I say the word "Korean"
I always keep one 4x4 in the fleet. Winter, off-roading, overland camping, etc. It needs to be something that can tow and haul, which used to be a truck, but I finally snagged a Chevy AWD full size Express van. It does it all.
Right now it's about all I drive. I still have the Fordzda Branger it replaced, mostly because I want to scavenge a few things from it (brake controller, audio, etc) and then spruce it up for sale.
I would love a luxo-performance car for road trips. Still keeping my eye open for the right Jag XJR. I put it on hold during the pandemic because a $6000 XJR is currently a $12,000 XJR for no reason other than car prices are stoopid right now.
In the long run, my 67 Lemans Convertible will become the Jag XJR in the fleet. LS/T56 restomod in a pro-touring vibe. I also have a 66 Bonneville that will get a similar treatment, but it will be a Duramax tow pig.

As a XJR nut, you should have kept the Impala SS and restored it to its former glory

Pot calling the kettle black.
In my world, I've always been flipping through interesting cars as DD's.
My last 6 DD's have been a 2dr Jeep Rubicon, Integra GSR sedan, Golf R, LS swapped Miata, MR2 Turbo, and a MSM.
I really should just have a car dealership. I enjoy experiencing cars but rarely keep them long.
I always thought Justys were cool, super light car with AWD sounds like a lot of fun in winter. Ive gotten close to buying one at least once
I can't consolidate cars. I have a fleet and none are daily driver "nice" type cars. They're all projects. If at least 2 of the almost dozen run/drive my girlfriend and I are set!

I'm a diehard GM guy and I'd rather talk about a Cressida wagon than a corvette any day of the week and twice on sunday. I generally hate talking to "car people" out in the wild and corvette car people are some of the worst.
Unfortunately, I drive such not normal cars that people comment and ask questions almost every time I go out. My girlfriend hates it. It's even worse for her because so many dudes think she's a car chick when she's out and about by herself.

My family does the what car thing............I tell them to grab a copy of CRs most reliable cars. I too got tired of giving them a thorough answer that would be completely ignored.
I also get asked about things wrong with co-workers cars; I will answer up to a point.

I have easy solution, as my fleet is always very rare stuff. When I had my 95 Turbo (owned since new), last week, F&F bro came up at gas station, and wanted to chat. I was late for my meeting, so I used the standard response "oh its my wife's car, I know nothing about it."
I am sure he walked away thinking I am a pansy snow flake - but helped me not have a convo.
I have cars that attract teenage boys, cars that attract old caucasian women, cars that attract old white men, and cars that attract asian men only. If you don't want to talk, use my excuse "Its my fathers car. Its my wifes car. Its my friends car." They will leave you alone.
I have perfected the science, especially "what do you do for a living" or "how much does it cost" questions.
Same boat losing float here. I was four vehicles deep (the wife and I both work from home and barely go anywhere during coronatime), then sold my truck in January. It's stupid to have a 3/4 ton diesel 4x4 that is only used to haul my mountain bike one or two exits up the freeway, right? Exactly, so I sold it. I want it back.
I have two LS-swapped cars. One is the proverbial breast-structure on a bull. It should probably go.
Three vehicles are about right, but one must be a truck. Truck is necessary. Truck.
I actually looked into the dealership thing, mainly for the ease of having a dealer tag to fend off from going to the DMV all the time. It is doable but mainly have to have a location as the hold back. Haven't found the loop hole to get around that yet. Plus it would be easier just to pay insurance on the number of tags instead of each individual make and model car.

Warehouse rentals are super cheap, esp in Covid economy. I just secured 3 months ago a 5500 sq feet location to keep the cars. Rent was stupid cheap. Locked in 48 months.

Interesting idea, plus would solve the issue of hearing "Now what are you gonna do with that one?"

I approve of this technique.
I'm pretty picky about what I'm looking for though. Prefer late 2000-2003 X308s, but I suppose if the price is right I would consider an 04-up X350.
I would specify that I hate the silver and the beige, but most of them are silver or beige.
TL;DR... if it's the right price, I'll consider it.

Ha! That's perfect. Oddly, that's my girlfriends response anytime a dude asks her a question. "I don't know, I don't care. It's my boyfriend's car". Would be perfect to flip the table.

Define "super cheap" - because that sure isn't the case around me. Especially after utilities are factored in. That is my dream, tho...
