I love how they keep one-upping eachother. Its only getting better for us.

Yes, I love Subarus. After four in a row I changed brands due to the mediocre re-style (Impreza) and the general dumbing down of the performance but I could be all over this update. I don't know why Subaru can't get it right, right out of the box and it always takes them a year or two to make it desireable.
I would be seriously angry if I just bought an 08 WRX and they let this out of the bag for 09. All the things it should have been to start with. Geeeez..
I just with they were a bit more resonably priced in Canada. For the price I could buy a brand new Si or Cobalt SS and and still have over 5000$ to spare. Plus insurance and fuel economy arent the best either.
Nice to see Subaru brought the angry WRX back.

Ya but IMO the AWD tends to level the playing field. It is flat out sweet, particularly if you live in the snow belt. Unfortunately you are right about the insurance and fuel economy though, not the best.

No doubt. It would suck to buy the "WRX" only to find out you really have a "2.5GT" before you've even made the first payment. I wonder what the price difference between the 08 "WRX" and 09 WRX will be? I wonder if they're adding the LSD and good brakes back to the 09?
no price change.

But then you'd be left with an Si or a Cobalt.
I just bought an '08 WRX two months ago, but I'm not mad. The only thing an '09 will have that mine can't reasonably have for less coin is the bigger turbo. See, I specifically bought a no-option 5spd WRX. You can't get a 5spd '09 without the extra doo-dads of the premium package. Adding lightness baby, and the suspension was getting upgraded anyway...
I dont know about the 2009 WRX. But Im pretty sure the Si will outhandle the 2008 WRX. And then there is the arguably better looks and interior ergonomics. Insurance and mileage don't hurt as much either.
Scary to think how cheap it will be to make the new WRX fast...shudder
-basic bolt ons should knock it right into STI/EVO territory
-some basic suspension mods (as done for the GRM autocross WRX) and it will be able to outhandle both of em too
-Id say if you are smart and know how to set up a car <5000$ = one badass STI killer on the cheap
Anyways, it has been a tug of war between the Si and new NC for me. And leaning more towards the NC just because I have 2 miatas already and love em. Rwd is my thing, Ill take oversteer over understeer any day. And the price/mileage/insurance does not make the WRX even an option for me.

Ya I ended up buying an NC PRHT which I really like but here we are in August and I am staring down the barrel of a Michigan winter. I hope winter tires do the trick.
Move south...it's worth it.

I dunno, the turbo awd sedan I'm lusting after now is European, under 20k, and 300hp. I am really, really thinking about replacing the GTO with an S60R.
Edit: And it has all 6 gears and blue instrument faces (and who doesn't want that?).
