And now Rahal had a great car but a wheel didn't get put on.
I was rooting for Rahal, but it looks like this was his own fault. He left early, before the pit crew had released him.

Hell of a race and a hell of a drive for Helio. To go from being punted to sports cars to losing his ride with Penske to winning the 500 right in front of him at age 46. And he's such a good dude and a great ambassador for the sport.

Well, he was put down early- not sure why the jack man was in such a hurry- he's right there next to the tire. Based on his experience at Indy- he's going to be the best that never finishes. This wasn't the first time he had a rocket that didn't finish the race.
I tried watching because of the new ownership but the constant yammering and sponsor plugs by the commentators made it unwatchable for me. If you could watch it online with only the ambient sound I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I had it on and can't really complain as I was streaming it online but watching that compared to an F1 race was hard. The racing itself was good and I was glad to see the lack of yellows but the constant commercial breaks and sponsored this and that was overwhelming. I'd feel like I was getting slapped in the face if I were paying for cable/satellite and then having to deal with that.
I know Sky had it on in Europe, I wonder if their coverage was the same or different over there.
Watched the first few laps and all of the prerace stuff on tv; listened to the last 20 or so on radio. That was one of the more fun races I can remember. Wish I was there - I was there for Helio's first win, my first 500, would have been cool to be there for this one.
A possible, stretch of a connection to GRM from the race: the guy who waved the green flag was Milo Ventimiglia, who played Denny in The Art of Racing in the Rain. Supposedly there was a GRM patch on the characters race suit in the movie. I know of this, despite not caring for the book or watching the movie, because I'm pretty sure my wife is figuring out how to kidnap this Milo guy. Apparently, he is easy on the eyes.

I guess I grew up watching US racing coverage, so the ads just don't bug me like they do some folks. It's part of the deal. After all, the whole show depends on us buying those Farstone Tars.

I watched the tv but listened to the teams and watched in car on the INDYCAR app, with an iPad. Much better than listening to the tv guys.

I wonder if people have gotten spoiled with the no-commercials F1 coverage.
Which could be worse- I think to get that in other countries, there's a specific subscription to pay F1 for. I actually wonder if there will be a pay F1 version here in the US at some time.

I cut my cable about ten years ago and have been online since then, I typically avoid North American sports so that is probably it for me. When I do watch something on normal TV the number of commercials is jarring and hard to take. It puts into perspective the couple of short youtube adds I see and really aren't a bit deal.
Worst thing was the pre-race show... why on earth would they dig up Danica? Unfortunately, Indycar is making *that* mistake again with Jimmie Johnson but that's another subject for another day.
At least Danica has actually driven in the Indy 500. I really don't mind her. Jimmy Johnson was ok. Non of the announcers really bothered me. Like it or not time moves on and the faces of the sport change both on the track and in the booth. You also have to understand that for this race a big part of the audience may never have watched a race before so they always seem to over explaining what may be obvious to more seasoned fans.
What I did like was the guy that sang back home to Indiana. He nailed it!!!

Jim Cornelison. He's been doing it for a while, I think there were 3 years of "random" singers between Nabors and Cornelison.
Cornelison sings the anthem at the Blackhawks games. I'm biased, but his rendition in a packed United Center is second only to his predecessor's version (Wayne Messmer) in a packed United Center. The cheering and clapping starts at the first note. It started during Desert Storm at the NHL All Star game, and in person, will make a grown man cry.

He was excellent. Though I was scanning the Purdue band behind him for familiar faces. My daughter's best friend was there playing, though I found out yesterday she didn't get to play during that part. Still, pretty cool to be part of the ceremonies.
