Cool clip I found on motoiq.com. Porsche, from beginning to end. Watch out, it gets pretty ugly at the end. Also I think there is at least one shot or Mark Donahue.

Enjoy

I want the green 356 coupe.
And the factory 956 of course.

Great video.
I saw Niki Lauda and Stirling Moss too.

Nice video... and even with the warning about the end, I wasn't prepared for that. It kinda smacked me up a little

Yeah--the Panamera really seemed out of place after I was so busy fawning/swooning over Porsche's impressive history.

Also loved seeing the big Auto Union (?) racer getting sideways towards the start.

I know, yea I bet that was Ferdinand himself getting sideways in the auto union.

Dude, I'm not flaming you..but some of the best drivers of the pre-WW2 period drove those things. Varzi, Stuck (yes, Hans' dad), Rosemeyer, and even Nuvolari!

I still don't get what the "bad news" at the end of the vid is all about..are y'all talking about the 4-door? Heck, after the Cayenne, I'd consider something like that as hope for the future..

Sorry, my mistake, it's been a while since I read "bug". That probably was Stuck and for history's sake it could have been the original V16 P-Wagen which was driven by Stuck and won it's first race out in the Swiss Grand Prix over their Mercedes competition. Apparently it's first time out in january '34 it clocked 155mph and could reach nearly 250mph with it's 600hp engine, torsion bar suspension and weighing less than a bug. Apparently it was "notoriously difficult to drive" Talk about an understatement.

Yeah. Just thinking about wrestling that thing around on period tires scares me to death. And that's before we talk about 1934-spec brakes.
IIRC Rosemeyer actually died in the streamliner, trying to set a WSR on a stretch of Autobahn.

I'm not sure if it was him, but I remember reading about that in "bug" he was like forced to by Hitler against everyone telling him it was a bad idea. I think Porsche designed that one as well.

I was shocked that Porsche did not market the 12 Cyl. VW Phaeton as a 4 door Porsche. I bet if they came out with the 12 Cyl (only) and never badged one as a VW they would have sold a lot more of them....
the lines where too far off to badge as a porsche. It would have translated well into Audi.
I got bummed seeing the guy lifting the tranny into the car, and then seeing the robot do it.
What type of Porsche made the pass at 1:32?
I cant remember its numbers...
Why isnt racing this cool anymore?

x2. As much as I love my Corrados, I have to admit the reason people didn't buy them is because they just weren't ready for a $20K VW. Audi badges on the Phaeton (and Audi interior trim levels) might have done the trick.

I found a link about the accident, but it's much more concerned about the technical reasons for it, rather than the political ones (other than AU's desire to stay ahead of Mercedes).

429.6 KPH is 266.95 MPH per the calculator I used.
