My sis sent this from California
Real ‘65 GT-350. I’ve been waiting twenty years to see this car outside, and I’ve seen it twice in the past few weeks.
I first saw one of these in an old James Caan movie from the early 70's. It's a 1973 Dodge Rectrans. And yes it now lives in my side yard awaiting restoration. All fiberglass body with a 413 Chrysler engine and a 727 automatic. Black one is from the movie.
I think DeLorean started painting cars to help out sales near the end...
Interestingly, a (stainless) DeLorean now lives a block away from me.
Last weekend my son took me to a local car show. He said normally there about 3x the number of cars, but the equatorial heat kept most people away. Most unicorn-ish by my guess:
This caused Nick to go running across the lot like a 6 year old to an ice cream truck:
And this:
Also, no pics, but on the way out, we saw something purple, powered by a large V8.
I spent a couple hours googling and texting Pat; we're thinking maybe some kind of TVR or Lister?
It had very short rear overhangs like a TVR, but the body narrowed to a very pointed end, rather than most TVR pics I've seen. I remember my dad or uncle had one of those big slot car bodies very much like this, but that was like 40 years ago.
Thoughts?
Holy crap, somehow I just had a 40 year old synapse connect, and remembered it was a cat...
Cheetah.
Behold:
And the well-heeled GRMer can also buy the company
Which is located two townships away from me.
BRB, enroute to buy lottery tickets now...
Guy I know used to vintage race a Cheetah. Diabolical handling + drum brakes + lots of power = one nervous driver.
Story here: https://www.hagerty.com/media/car-profiles/driving-a-bill-thomas-cheetah-will-make-your-palms-sweat/
Ugly, loud and ill handling - what's not to love?
Fred bought the Cheetah after I was racing with him - he ran a really nice 57 Corvette, with fuel injection IIRC. I actually ran a fraction of a second faster laps in my MGA but of course he'd motor off from me on the straight, politely pointing for me to pass and no doubt laughing into his helmet. His drum brakes were the issue - apparently the ceramic linings meant that the drums had to be tossed after a race or two.

A red Delorean? NEVER seen that before
Usually, a painted car means it's had body damage. Nobody makes brushed-stainless Bondo.
I'd be scared E36 M3less of door dings if I had a DeLorean. Or any kind of dents, really.

I grew up on the Central Coast of CA- played soccer with Ernie Ball's grandson, and I remember Ernie used to drive a blue Dakota convertible. Even in the late 80's/early 90's thinking that was really weird. Then again, having a toyota regular cab, short bed 22r with a shell was the cool ride (unless you were rich like another dude I went to school with- the son of Copeland's sporting goods, who got the Marty McFly truck for his 16th b-day).

Wait, like Ernie Ball, Ernie Ball? Of Ernie Ball music man fame?
Time to get caught up, all the unicorns I've spotted since October last year:
At the same shop:
Spotted in Florida from the back of hobiercr's car:
Here's a few interesting entries from the autocross yesterday.
First off, I know it's a factory five kit, and I don't care. I'm still super excited to see it.
It's a recent build. I would imagine that it's still getting sorted, but it knocked down some respectable times.
I've only been autocrossing for a few years, so this is the first one of these I've seen at an event. It was fast, I believe second in his class.
I like this firebird. I know it's not rare enough to be a true unicorn, but I am including it because it's my post and I get to.
Finally, something that may not be super rare, that is unless you're at an autocross. This was also one of the loudest cars there and it definitely looked fun to drive.

It got dropped off at old mans for a health check. All fluids/filters changed and a few brake calipers fixed.

What year? I can't tell if that is an xl or xlt- bummer that they changed the wheels as well. The stock Alcoa's are pretty. Must have been an xl with steel wheels originally.
