Oh really? The boat anchor of the head-gasket spewing Ford 3.8 is superior to the 3800 Series II GM motor?

ReverendDexter wrote: The biggest issue with an S197 V6 is that near as I know they all came from the factory with an open diff, and being that it's the 7.5" rear instead of the 8.8" found in everything else, you're not just gonna go pull an LSD out of the junkyard (though they're still easily found, this IS a Mustang you're talking about, lol).
Technically speaking the 7.5" LSD was available in various Rangers and Panther chassis cars and can be bolted in. You still have a noodle of a gear diameter but at least you can impress the kids in junior high.

Yes.

I am pretty sure they fixed that problem around 96. I'm not saying the Ford is better, But I am saying I've seen a stock 3.8 ford with a turbo lay down 320 whp with my own two eyes. So it can't be that bad. Car is has been like that for two years, beaten on daily. I've also done the GTP thing so I know the series II is BA. Point is, they're both good if they've been cared for.
Ford didn't fix the 3.8 until the Split-Port in 1999, and it was still a turd. There's N/A 3800's that put down 320whp. Not even the same league.
I'm pretty sure a NA Series II with that much power would be a bitch to drive on the street, you're spot on with "Not in the same league"

Big difference there. Mustang 302 had power levels comparable to the Chevy 350 of that time.

Either.

depends on what time you are talking about. The only stock 5.0 ive ever been able to find to drive was a 95 with 38k on it. a 95 lt1 camaro could skip 1st gear and still beat that thing. But some of the old fox bodies were several hundred lbs lighter. I think a 3.8/5spd camaro could probably hang with an early iroc-z if both were stock. Once those went tpi it wouldnt work.
In reply to ReverendDexter:
There's three vehicles in my driveway; a 99 Intrigue with a 3.8, a 95 Mustang 5.0 with a manual trans and floppy top, and a Honda VFR 800 VTEC Interceptor. Obviously the Honda is quicker than the other two, but the Olds is probably a little quicker than the Mustang. Not as fun to drive though. All of them are stock in the power train department.
The crazy thing is how much I want to make the Mustang live up to the hype of the name where as the Olds gets barely any attention.

Oh, I agree, an LT1 is a different animal. I was talking '93-and-earlier Chevy 350s like in the IROC.
