In the red corner: the 1983-1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (and 1984-1986 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Turbo)!
And in the blue corner, the 1983-1989 Mitsubishi Starion Turbo (and the 1984-1989 Dodge/Chrysler Conquest)!
Fight!

I will admit, I have never thought of these two cars in the same sentence before.
Interesting in their own rights but I go with Conquest for exclusivity as well as not being hindered by a long nose and big back end.
Additionally, the Conquest is not an adaptation of a secretary's car.
Mustang SVO vs Conquest may be more inline.
Turbo coupe. Blocks are stout, trans are stout, basic Fox body platform is stout. The only issue is the stock Ford fueling and ignition. Install EDIS and megasquirt; upgrade the pump and injectors, turn the boost up and go.
I know nothing about the Starion except that an LS1 fits in the engine bay.
Starquest by a billion miles. I have zero love for the T-bird. They should have stopped making that thing after '57.
(EDIT: in reply to Javelin, since I slipped four posts...)
Turbo Coupe, and it's ALL YOUR FAULT!
I didn't care about them, really, and then you posted another picture of a dark blue TC in another thread a few months ago, and I haven't been able to forget about it.
The StarQuest's got box flares, fer crying out loud. But no. I want the Turbo Coupe.
OK, I haven't participated in many of these vs. threads, but this one got my attention.
T-bird was cool, but this fight is almost like Tyson vs. McNeeley (remember that one??) StarQuest by KO in one punch.
The paper specs are a lot closer than you guys realize. I've owned both, and they are very similar drives. This may be a purposeful thread because I'm hankering for RWD turbo again, and 951's are expensive...
This really seems like a question of "which do you want to fight with more, crappy suspension or crappy induction / management" and I kind of like the idea of fighting induction. Plus I like the Starquest's looks a lot more.
Turbo Coupe without a doubt.
It may be an overweight and underluxury class car, but damn they are FUN! The DiamondStarQuest doesn't compare.
In reply to mndsm:
I say Starquest for the opposite reason. It is the epitome of '80s styling. But that is what makes it cool.
I hate recirculating ball steering passionately, butI don't want to ever see another fox chassis Ford parked outside of my residence though.
I guess I'd actually shell out money for a cheap enough Starion though.
To hopefully partially make up for my behavior in another one of these threads...
SVO..
uuhh I mean Turbo Coupe..
Starquest. It reminds me of all the Transformers I loved as a kid.
Although the coupe has the whole Stroker Ace thing going for it.
if this were a beauty contest, i'd vote starion.
if we're talking about a car i have to own: turbocoupe.
Starquest. I've never wanted to own a TC T-bird (not that they don't have some appeal), but I would like to own a Starquest at some point. Besides, I've got the XR to satisfy my 2.3 turbo Ford product desire.
BTW, not to muck this up or anything, but if I were comparing the Starquest to a 2.3 turbo'd Ford product, it wouldd be the XR4TI, not the TC.
