It's too late to slow it down?

Getting back to the topic (because see my comment about only sharing vetted info), IMSA just canceled the 12 hours as well.
The cancellations etc are in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus. We know viruses are transmitted through close contact or close proximity with infected individuals or contaminated surfaces.
Avoiding those things slows down the transmission. If you don't believe that then you're free to go to heavily crowded places and rub your eyes after you shake hands and use doorknobs.
Italy population 60 million
12,000 infected
U.S. population 330 million
1,300 infected
I think we've don't pretty good thus far. We may not be immune to this virus but some are are immune to facts.

Looks like I'll just be living at the track that week if we aren't all dead by then. Champcar Sebring is the week prior.
We have had community transmission in at least 2 states, Washington State and New York.
In my state, there are cases that have been travel-related. Some of these cases have resulted in transmission to family members.
Last I checked, we don't actively monitor travel of American citizens inside of the United States. I did not say the cancellations are not an effort to prevent further spread, what I did say is that this virus has already spread, and since everyone is not being tested we have no way of knowing at this point what the true extent of the spread really is. At this point we are only testing people who show symptoms, and those who have been in close proximity. What we don't know is how many other people are out there who may have been affected.
Oh, and since we want the information vetted, here a CNN article about state by state distribution of cases. Note the numbers for New York and Washington State

"What if you're wrong?"
"If I'm wrong, nothing happens. We got to jail. Peacefully. Quietly. We'll enjoy it.
"But if I'm right, and we can stop this thing, Lenny, you will have saved the lives of millions of registered voters."

Thanks, Javelin. Yeah, let's keep this thread for race postponement/cancelation info.
We can debate statistics elsewhere.

This still blows my mind. Cramming 100,000+ people into a small space when any number of people attending are already infected is insane.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Locally there is model car show that is postponed and the local SCCA region is thinking about postponing some events as well. The giant Portland Swap Meet is in a few weeks and runs afoul of the governor's decoration on events with more than 250 people.
Also Matthew Inmann's (the oatmeal) inaugural Burning Cat in Portland has been cancelled - https://burningcat.com/
Not trying to diminish the importance of washing your hand as I find myself washing them more then I normally would.
However. I am in the generation of the first baby boomers being born in 1946 just after the end of World War II. As the Cold War escalated the manufacturer of atomic/ nuclear bombs also escalated. The darker side of my humor equates "wash your hands" with the "duck and cover" campaign which meant when the bomb warning went off students were supposed to climb under your desk and place a opened hard cover book over the back of you neck and head. In retrospect I guess this was to give you something to do until being vaporized.
Again not trying to diminish the carona virus threat. We should all pay attention and do as much as each individual can do to minimize the spread.
