I want to finish my Cheetah inspired build!
I’m pretty happy with the state of the current fleet. My next goal is to turbo the ecotec Miata. Maybe start hanging some absurd aero off it.
Let’s see.
This car is getting roughly 1800mpg of oil. I'd like to remedy that with either a 4.8, an OM606 or a TDI.
Take a Mazda miller cycle motor. Re grind the cams to convert it back to auto cycle. New head gaskets and pistons. Balance the rotating assembly. MS for control. Stuff it in to an FD rx7.
Edit: or put it back n an RX8

Why not just start with a regular KLDE/KLZE? Same engine, just the Miller engine was 2.3l instead of 2.5l.
The supercharger wouldn't work without severe firewall surgery anyway...
Depends on what catches my eye on Craigslist any given day. There are a few recurring fantasies that make the short list:
C10, preferably a 67-72 but I'd take an early square body as well, parts hauler/tow pig. Give it a mild smack with the lowering stick, but not so low as to ruin the utility. Upgrade the braking and handling a bit, but no full on pro touring E36 M3. LS power backed by a 4l80, mild cam and headers. Fix the rust, because there will be rust, but otherwise little concern for cosmetics.
Similar to above, but with full size 60-80s-ish wagon.
Drag car on the cheap, not sure exactly what, but the sleepier the better (7xx or 9xx Volvo often comes to mind.) Junkyard 4.8 or 5.3 with the biggest china charger, or maybe even two. Injectors, valve springs, head gaskets, and feed it as much boost as it will take. Stick a rear in it that will survive and fab a suspension that will hook up, but keep any visual cues to an absolute minimum. This could potentially be a Challenge build.
Really anything else that could make a half decent Challenge build.
Locost, or similar, minimally streetable and built mostly for auto x, or possibly even hill climbs. Small displacement, naturally aspirated screamer under the hood, maybe even a bike motor. 150hp would be plenty, though more is good too, I really just want it to rev to the moon. Custom double wishbone suspension, IRS, inboard mounted motorcycle shocks, beefy cage, probably McSorley, or even Midlana based chassis.
But before any of this happens, I've got more I want to do with the RX7.
With this...
Via...

= Japanese Muscle GT car...
RX8's can be found for about 1,000.
The 3uz can be found for about a 1,000 as well.
Could probably be done for under 5,000.
OR...
Honda J-Series V6... Can be built to make 315whp pretty easily with various OEM internals. Again, super plentiful and cheap.
Super light weight and compact. Weights about 315lbs as well. Hahaha.
Via 350z/S2000 transmission from Inline Pro...
= This swap should definitely retain the RX8's handling behavior the most.
911 power in my 914. However, I lack the motivation to do the research and hunt down the parts. Years ago I had the opportunity the buy a converted parts 914 6. That one still haunts me.
Parked next to a new short box single cab Chevy truck today. Reminded me that I still want to build a full size autocross/track/One Lap truck.
I would like to build restomod/protouring 1975 el camino or gmc sprint in the same color combo as the one I drove in college. It was light blue with a white vinyl top. I would also like to build a v8 fiero.
I have the projects I'd like to finish in my lifetime, we'll see if I can get them done. I've owned these cars between 10 and 35+ years and at one time I had them all registered & insured along with a bunch of others, then life and almost lack of life got in the way. Been selling down on cars slowly as the years go by and probably won't ever buy another toy.
67 Camaro RS SS convertible: Finish replacing trunk pan and related under side sheet metal & drive for a while then sell.
70 Firebird: Finish current rebuild/upgrades, get it back out on road tracks to test all the aero modifications. I (foolishly) took a perfectly nice looking track ready car completely apart for a bare metal rotisserie restoration with lots of upgrades and been working on it for 7-8 years now.
86 Carrera widebody, Cabrio, ROW car: Find the key, put in new battery & street drive till I have time and desire to repaint it. It's a cool 80's iconic looking widebody, whale tail, 3.2, manual car, with black leather AC etc.
81 Malibu 2 door Landau: Finish building the 357 SBC and install it along with the Flowmaster exhaust and complete Hotchkis suspension that have been in my dining room for the past 8 years. Have an 8.5 GN rear & T-400 trans to go with the SBC. I already did body/paint & interior then jumped projects.
66 Mustang coupe: Built a 302 for nitrous, beefed up C4, 9" rear with 4.88's already and bought all the sheet metal, frame rails, and lots of other parts to build a street/strip car. Gonna take the most time to complete (metal work) so it's at the bottom of my list.
IF I ever got all the current cars done: 53-54 Studebaker Champion with a late 60's Barracuda fastback rear glass section grafted on and headlights from maybe a 911 or similar. Something unusual for drive train.

Because I can/want to. Oh and the head design in the 2.3 is much better than the 2.5. The valve angles are very different among other things. I just think it would be a cool engineering excesize that I don’t think has been done. It was on MO30s and my to do list. I was going to do the motor and it was to end up in a small pickup (his part of the project). Like an s10. I did all the engineering work for the motor work. Even found a place in NH to do the regrind the cams.

Dude, stop hanging out with those people. We're your friends now.

I want to put a kelmark gt body in a ffr 818 chassis for a "poor mans" 904 look alike.
Given your current life and resources, what car would you like to build if you had the chance and what would you want to do with it?
Given my current life and resources, I could maybe build a matchbox car. If I cut back the food budget a bit, a custom power wheels would be nice.
RCSB F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost. 2wd, slicks, big turbos and see how fast i can push it.
A close second would be a 98 5.9L Grand Cherokee restoration. I fell in love with the screw it attitude of the Jeep engineers who wanted a fast as hell SUV in a time where they werent an option. Really wish Jeep would do an SRT8 with the hood louvers just as a nod to the old 5.9L model.
Third, well, the new Hyundai I30N or Veloster N model tickle my fancy. I loved my little Elantra and i think a hot rodded version of that would be stellar. Would love to buy one just to have. This actually might be my next venture....
I like the look of the Pro Touring/Optima type cars.
Samples:
I'd like to do this type of thing but do it with a '77 Cadillac Seville.
Some of the reason being prices. Novas were basic transportation and as such most were used up and discarded so that currently it is harder and harder (read more and more expensive) to find a good example. However, the Sevilles were saved and stored in-doors yet the values never really shot up high. Right now, without really trying you can find real running, low mile examples in VG shape for under $6k. Easy Found Sample
The Seville shares a lot with the last Nova so I think that RideTech or the Summit catalog would have most of what you need. LS swap with modern suspension and brakes should be rather straight forward.
This old photos is the only inspiration that I can find on the internet:

Interesting because that body would be fwd originally. Also, that body would be 4 door. My guess is the long front door is taken from the Eldorado that shared the same frame. Rough, but that profile is a good look.

This has crossed my mind as well. I feel like an open exhaust and a gnarly cam would be enough to make it sound spectacular and realy, how much faster do you really want to push the chassis? They're cheap.
