Wow, that seems super obvious in retrospect...

There are SEVERAL 1.8t/manual vehicles that fit the bill.

b5 passat b5 a4 b6 a4

Although if you give up the AWD aspect you can look at the golf and jetta as well.

Point being each of those will break 30 with a manual trans.

I'm not so sure... right after I sold my '98 A4 2.8q - partly due to the crappy mileage - I asked other A4 owners what mileage they were getting out of their 1.8t cars. Most said 30 mpg was rare and hard to do without really babying the throttle and pretty much sticking to the speed limit.

Won't do it. I got 21 on ~50/50 highway/town combined.

I suggest you look at the gov site & compare the selections side by side:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbsSelect

Customize with your actual fuel price and % highway/city.

Anybody who says they beat the #'s by more than 3 mpg is optimistic or rounding up generously.

ZHP was a performance package BMW made available on the 330 sedan and coupe for a few years in the mid-00s. I think a 330 without the ZHP package could do the same MPG I just did but am not positive about that.

Here's some more info: Wikipedia ZHP definition
