All things considered they're probably fine, but 981 values have been dropping recently too. Looking around the bottom of the market looks very similar between 718 base and 981S, with 981 base a bit cheaper. I'd be really hard pressed to take a base 718 over a comparable condition 981S or slightly nicer base 981.
