I blame it on the 17's which she had yet to let me downsize. There is no reason for that car to run a 35 series tire.
Maybe focus on something more high end with the active cruise control. That is a must have for chewing tons of highway.
I'd agree with others on the LS400. I'd narrow my search to one with the Mark Levinson stereo. Super comfy, ultra reliable, good performance, great interior, and perhaps the best sound system ever installed in a car. Unless a Merc / Audi / BMW had been thoroughly gone through and all the deferred maintenance taken care of....I'd be wary of trusting the Germans on a trip that long with other people depending on me. I'd have no such reservations in the Lexus--- as they are stone reliable.
I have to admit.....I don't need one, but I kinda want one.
Looks like I got beat to the Genesis Sedan option. THat would be my go-to for long distance highway cruising. OR our 06 GMC crew Cab 4.8 2wd with 3.23 gears. Seats are stupid comfy. Long wheelbase makes the bumps disappear. 20+mpg at 70+mph. 80mph=2000rpms.

This. Seriously.
A friend recently went from western Wisconsin to Pennsylvania in a rented Charger.
My friend said: $285 for 1 week.... unlimited miles with Enterprise and drove about 2800 miles. If you don' get unlimited, the costs HURT BAD!! I did not buy extra insurance which they suggested. mpg?? no clue?? lol... have them go online... then they send coupons, so I saved 10% off. The difference between the size 3 car and the size 5 car was only $5 more for the WEEK, so that is why we went for the bigger car. The coupons I did not receive for a few days after I started looking around. It was an awesome car!
80s crown vic/marquis. Its a 302/aod and an 8.8 so its stone reliable, rides like a giant sofa and every parts store anywere carrys parts. My 85 was an awesome road trip car.

I road tripped a Flex for 6 hours, did not like the seats. It felt like my shoulders were being forced into a hunched position. I imagine it might be the same for other tall folks. It cruised pretty well though.
If you're willing to spend $30k, fly and drive?

I think the Mark Levinson was for the LS430's. In the LS400, you want the Nakamichi Premium. I have one with that and one with Lexus Premium. As I have said before, the Lexus Premium is the best car stereo I've ever heard. The Nakamichi Premium is the best stereo I've ever heard.

I have the Impala's corporate twin, a W-body Regal, and if I can get that rip in the driver's seat fixed it will be about the perfect highway cruiser. A W-body would get my vote in the super low buck division - you can even get them with the 3800SC for under $3000 in good shape.
For a bit more money, I'd probably look into a BMW 5 series, Lexus LS400, or Chrysler LX platform.
12K buys a good one of these if you really search.
It's basically a V8 couch on wheels, the top goes down, big stereo, the AC is strong and all the mechanical parts are dirt cheap. I have driven mine almost 500 miles in a single stretch with 0 comfort issues.
I've seen infinity tapped a few times. How about an m35/45? Dang fast in 45 format, comfy, super cool looking, pretty reliable, and mostly forgotten outside of the real serious bippu world.
I've had both a Q45 and a G35 sedan back in the day. As comfortable as the Lexus with a slightly sporty feel. Highly recommended.
As a side note in case the worst happens, my Q met an untimely death when it was T-boned by a kid doing about a hundred in an Acura. I had loaned it to a friend (professional race car driver in fact), to take to Florida for a family Christmas. His wife and 2 kids were also in the car. From what I remember the driver of the Acura was killed, but they were all ok except the wife had a bad case of whiplash from her head hitting the consol. It moved the B piller back about a foot, but all the glass was intact. They drove it back to North Alabama from the GA, FL state line. I was stunned how well made the car was and how it withstood the impact.

get some 16s just for the cruise? Cheaper than buying a car

I'm not sure you're very good at this game
Seriously, I want to replace the Civic with something else anyway. May as well be a comfy mile eater.
Thanks for all the ideas and keep them coming I'm making a list.
Oooh... Kia Cadenza as well. Should be cheap because it's a Kia, and no one knows what they are.
EDIT: Nevermind.... you can get V8 RWD for under $10k: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/677139864/overview/
