I never saw one like this before
What is this thing?
A. An exercise in bad taste.
B. An exercise in dealer mark up.
C. An attempt to make a Subaru look like a Buick Century.
D. An attempt to make Subaru's appealing to grey haired grannies.
E. All of the above.
at least it does not have questionable rims or a huge spoiler on the trunk.
it could be great fun to buy, strip the top, and then dump a full on STi drivetrain and suspension into it

Keep the cloth top, gives it added sleeper cred!
I'm not saying I've seen them everywhere, but I've seen a decent number of that generation Legacy's with cloth roofs. Not sure if it was a factory option or dealer installed, but it was definitely readily available.
Dollars to doughnuts this car was first sold in Florida. Florida dealers will put a "carriage roof" on ANYTHING.
as you approach from the rear, it looks like you are coming up to a later Chrysler K car variant... then after you pass it you get confused when you see what looks like a 90's Buick Century in your mirror..

Subaru did import a handful of Legacy Turbos to the States in the early 90s.
Swap drivetrain into the granny special, install a black-painted FMIC so you don't need the hood scoop and give the game away, and voila! Instant sleeper!
