So, there's rumors out there about the next Nissan Z becoming a hybrid crossover.

I mean, who knows, but this is the company that built this:
Nissan, you're drunk. Go home. And when you get home, please stop building vehicles.
Hahahahahaha hahahahahaha
Wow.

HA HA, Silverfleet make joke!

Uhmm, uh oh.
Wow, I honestly think your average high school age enthusiast could do a better job as a product planner than most auto companies. It seems that the only things anyone wants to make are jellybean crossovers and lifesize Tonka trucks. And the sad thing is people gobble that E36 M3 up...
are crossovers legally considered cars or trucks? because trucks have less stringent fuel economy, emissions, and crash standards than cars..
I'm not a fan of the 350/370 because cockroach. But I have a hard time believing that Nissan will really do something this dopey
On one hand, Nissan.
On the other, TTAC.

Is there a current automaker that has lost its way more than Nissan? (I'm not counting Mitsubishi or Suzuki or other sorta car makers, I'm talking about real car makers). I thought the 350Z was cool when it came out until I drove one and realized the window sill was at my neck/shoulder instead of my elbow and crossed it off the list. I liked the looks of the G35 coupe when it came out. Other than that, I nearly have to go back until they were sold here as Datsuns to find anything Nissan that interests me. In short, I wouldn't be all that surprised if they turned the Z car into a super juke...or would that be super joke?

Here's the original article that started it:

Seriously, Nissan has done nothing but swirl the toilet bowl in the eyes of every car enthusiast, and even some regular consumers! They have a rich history of building excellent cars, but they have been going down the wrong path for at least 10 years now. With "CVT ALL THE THINGS" whether the car can handle it, throwing that inappropriate "4-DSC" sticker back on a fat, CVT-saddled Maxima, and crap ad campaigns with slogans like "NASA-INSPIRED SEATS" and that poorly disguised "race car" Altima disaster, you're doing it wrong.
And hey, Nissan, just a helpful hint: you have been building the crossover that you plan on turning the Z into for 10 years already. It's called the FX35, FX37, FX50, etc. I have driven one (my sister has a 2006 FX35 with the Sport package) and it's not bad for a crossover, and it sounds like Chewbacca when you romp on it.
Don't ruin the only sports car you have left! At least Mr. K is not alive to see this.
I wrote Nissan off a long time ago. They just keep getting worse and worse. And people say Honda has lost it's way.
In reply to bravenrace:
I think Honda will be going through a renaissance of sorts in the next few years. They are embracing turbocharged engines and they are bringing over a nasty performance-oriented Civic. Their current offerings are a little boring, but they are simple and get the job done. For example, I really like the current Accord Sport with the available 6-speed manual. It looks good, isn't all wacky inside, and gets the job done. Nissan doesn't have anything like that anymore.
I was just buying ordering parts for my 280Z at the local Nissan dealer. As I pull up in my 2007 Honda Fit a salesman asked if I was ready to trade it in. I laughed and asked, "On a Nissan? Nope." He looked just a little bit hurt.
Ummmm. GTR anyone? Yes, it is more expensive than a Z car, but it seems pretty dominant to me.
Agree that I don't love all their stuff, but you have to take chances to be innovative. I mean, plenty of people on this board swoon over STI swapped foresters.
How different would a Z crossover be?

Sti swapped foresters don't mean Subaru cancels the Impreza, and that's not even a strong enough analogy for what we're talking about here.

All vehicles require a higher door height now. It is required because of the new side impact requirements. Hell I'm 6'2" and can barely hang my arm out the window of my subcompact Cruze.

I know, but my 2005 Miata does not feel like I am sitting down inside of it like a 2005 350Z feels. Those cars were built with the same requirements AFAIK. I can rest my elbow on the door if I want without dislocating my shoulder. There is an element of the design that they chose to make the windows higher than required. It was a styling choice.
technically an Infiniti, and not sure if its a crossover or small SUV, but i think an AWD FX35 would be fun with some bolt ons
obiously wouldnt be able to hold it own against a Z car but would still be pretty fun

I'm pretty sure the sill on a Z32 is just as high. A lot of sports cars are like this
Can we go back to 1992 for them? 300ZX Twin Turbo, 240SX SE, Sentra SE-R Coupe, NX2000, Maxima SE, Hardbody and the Pathfinder. Now that's a lineup I like.
I used to worship Nissan when I was 16, and said one day I would buy brand new one. Well I bought a brand new car for the first time 2 years ago. What did I get? A Mazda..

That was a heck of a lineup. In 1992 I drove a then-new Sentra SE-R. My parents had a five-speed Maxima SE and a 240SX. (I now own that 240SX.) My brother might have had his 200SX by then, too.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
1989-1994 were the golden years of Nissan IMHO. The Maxima SE was awesome (I had one, and I miss it!), the Sentra SE-R was fantastic, the 240SX was cheap fun, the Z was super rad with timeless looks and could be had with twin turbos, the early Altima SE was not terrible, hell, even the trucks and Pathfinder were great! And that's just the US lineup. It got WILD over in Japan.
And yeah, I know they still make the GT-R, but that thing is around $100k now and is out of reach of most gearheads. The Z is even a bit much for what it is, but at least it's available.
looks like they took that pointless new Land Rover mini-ute (the one with the 6" tall rear hatch glass) and let a 13-year-old restyle it and put giant wheels on it. No thanks. There is literally nothing in Nissan's lineup that interests me at all now (including the GT-R)...and that's crazy seeing as almost everything in their lineup in the 90s interested me greatly.
now, put some normal-size wheels on that and remove the lift kit, and it starts to look like some kind of cool CRX replacement or something.
THAT I could get interested in.
SF, my brother bought a five-speed Altima new in 1995. He had it up until just a few years ago. My parents also had two 1984-'88 Maximas. One even talked. Yes, we were quite the Nissan family.
