Had a navy blue '88 as my first car when I was 16, the door fell off when I was driving down the highway home at 11 O'clock at night, no E36 M3, true story. I leaned on the door and the thing just fell off, luckily I wasn't leaning too hard and didn't fall out(seatbelt helped this too). Good thing no one was behind me at the time, I pulled over, ran out dragged the door off the road, threw it in my trunk and tied it shut, drove home, told dad we needed to scrap it, and next week i was in a SL2. So really I have nothing to weigh in on, the radio worked in mine, so i guess it was alright.
My friend is an FBI agent and in the late 80s-early 90s his official vehicle was identical to the white one pictured. Well, maybe not quite identical---it didn't have the flashy wire wheel hubcaps or whitewall tires and inside the trunk was a huge lockbox that contained an arsenal!

I like the way you think, Pat. Yes it is an Iron Duke and yes I think a 5.3 from a GXP Grand Prix or MonteCarlo would make for an awesome sleeper.
The thought of spraying the Duke makes me chuckle. A 100 shot would double its output and it'd still be slow.
then you'd better get a 200 shot.

Well I sold the Buick to my friend for $1500. Probably needs new tires soon and new rear brakes. It's too bad I have no use for it or I would have bought it.
FWIW, I wasn't judging anybody or anything. I've just been done like that before; "Hey man, what happened to that nice BBQ grill I gave you a couple years ago?"
"Oh, it was a piece of E36 M3. We bought a new one and threw it out...sold it...whatever."
I'd rather hear they used it for scrap metal to build a giant robot than sold it for profit. Dig?
That said, hell yeah I'd GIVE it away to someone who really needed it...and hopefully they, in turn, would give it to someone down the road.
It's called the "circle of free." When you do the right thing, it comes back to you.
Heyyyyy!! My first boyfriend had the wagon version of this car. I think it was the Cutlass Cruiser... at the very least it has really comfortable seats and gives a super smooth ride? Do you have any kids who will soon be of driving age, or any friends with kids? I mean, it is big and relatively safe...
The circle of free I think is also called "Paying it Forward" - someone does something nice for you, you do something nice for someone else, it comes back to them, it comes back to you, etc. etc.
I kind of agree with the donating to a needy family with the floods and all, but I think that it would be even better to keep it in the family if there is someone that could use it! After all, she/he did give it to you guys for a reason! They wanted you to have it!
Why do I really like that thing?
Man, if I was as "easy" with women as I am with cars, my wife would leave me in a hot second.

once something is no longer mine, i don't care what happens to it.. if someone sells it and makes a profit, hey, good for them.
I saw a black one at Lemons at NHMS last weekend. I think that's your answer right there.

agree. if someone gives me something i don't need i find it a new home for the same price - free. equally it pisses me off if i give someone something based on a stated need for such thing, and see it for sale. ie - i listed a set of circle track wheels on CL free "if you need them for your project" - guy picks them up and the next day they are up for $150 with a history of how he was an old racer and other such nonsense.
is it a dick move to take a cherry 33k mile car from an old lady and sell it? IMHO yes but whatever. it all comes back to you in the end. you reap what you sow, etc...
I inherited a pretty clean, white, two owner '90 6000LE when I was 15. Had to donate it due to title issues long befoe getting my license, but the few times I drove it on my permit, it really was't all that terrible... of course it was a V6.
Do what you like with it, thanks for sharing anyway. Cool to see something still around that really wasn't built to be around long enough for antique plates.
My first car was an '82 Pontiac 6000LE the 4-banger. It was a nice upgrade from my bicycle. That's the only good thing I can say about it.

You know, there IS something glorious about a semi-small, extremely simple engine in a huge engine bay. At least, thats the way the mechanic in me sees it. Those things are simple as all hell and pretty easy to work on.
But yeah, they arent great to drive. A 3.8, even n/a, IS pretty good to drive in those. Make it supercharged or skip right up to 5.3 and you'll be grinning whenever the road is straight.
