I'm thinking about picking up a used Honda CR-V. I'd like to avoid dealing with TPMS. Does anybody know what year Honda started using the TPMS. I'm guessing either 2005 or 2006. I can't remember what year they became mandated by the government, but I know that my 2005 Tacoma doesn't have it.

Civics started in 2008, though I'm not sure if that corresponds to the rest of their lineup.

It was mandatory for 2008, but many manufacturers made it optional before that. It was almost always bundled with run-flat tires, as a sensor might be the only way you would know that you had a tire going down until it came apart.

Thanks.

I just found a site with pdf's of factory brochures. The CR-V brochure doesn't list them until 2007, which corresponds to the introduction of the new body style, so that makes sense.

My 2006 S2000 does not have them. Neither does my mom's 2007 Civic.

My wifes 2008 Acura RDX does have them.

Does the TPMS throw a ODB code?

If not, why not just go without and unplug the light?

In reply to aircooled:

Iirc is a separate system, ive been doing with ignoring the light but it is for some reason attached to the traction control. Its a pain in the butt the few times we have snow or if im trying to get out of a stop quickly because this is a very intrusive trac control, kills power instead of limit it. Ive got a work buddy with a more fancy reader that ive been trying to hook up but havent had time. No clue what the issue is

Can the traction control be disabled?

No. This is one of the dumbest things Honda has done. I like Honda, but they decided that if the computer sees an issue with the TPMS you cannot turn off traction control.

What I actually meant was can the traction control be disabled normally, with a working TPMS system?

Yes, it can be dissabled.

+1, it can only be disabled if TPMS is in place and working. I was going to go without TPMS on the snow wheel/tire setup for my '13 Fit, but the owner's manual told me that traction control cannot be disabled if there is a TPMS fault...so I coughed up the extra for new sensors and a sync tool, as traction control can do more harm than good in a heavy WI snow.

Seems my questions were answered, but fireball thats a good idea ill try out. Yeah this is a really dumb honda system. Trac can be turned off easily UNLESS theres a weird problem with their glorified tire pressure gauge system. Another reason i HATE modern hondas this car has been more issue than i care to acknowledge. Dang honda

It's not across the board. The TMPS has been inop on my 2007 Element for 5 years now (no sensors installed). All I have to do is reach down and hit the traction control button to turn it off.
