Hi Folks,
My LS1 swap is in need a fresh 4l60e.
All my research states that the chances of getting an effed up rebuilt trans is pretty high, due to the fact that many rebuilts skimp or don't know exactly what they are doing. I am not sure this is true or not, but I want avoid a costly mistake. I don't want to take my trans out until I have another in hand, since I have a running functioning car.
Have any of you had any positive experiences with puchasing a rebuilt 4l60e? If so where did you purchase it?
What companies should I stay away from? What GRM sponsors should I look at?

A 4l60 is such a common transmission that you should be able to get a good rebuild pretty much anywhere in the usa. Personally, i would just find a local shop with good reviews (search their name on the internets), preferably one that gets used by other shops with good reviews. If you know of a shop you trust, ask them who they use for transmissions. Most places don't do their own anymore and subout to dedicated trans builders. I rebuilt 4l60s when i worked at a trans shop at 22-23 years old and did a 'good job' once i learned it. It's not quite rocket surgery but you always hope you get the guy who trained everyone else and has been doing it the longest even if the kid driving the loud-ass piece of E36 M3 slammed k-car to work does a pretty decent job too.
x2 on the local shop. or check around for a low mile used one. i bought a 23k mile 2003 trans for $200 on ebay because the seller was not willing to ship. i took a 3.5 hour ride to buffalo to get it and saved a ton of money.

I just moved here about 2 months ago, so I don't have any knowledge of the local shops are car folks.
