By the way, notice that we haven't really discussed the story behind the cars. Know what? Because all of our cars have cool stories. Sure, maybe it's a bone-stock whatever, but the story behind it is what makes it so cool.

Since this is an ongoing, regular bit, there is no deadline. I'm always on the hunt for submissions. Lately, though, the well got a little dry.

Well, yeah. Figure this is survival of the fittest. The best photos make the mags, and rarely are they taken with a phone.
Sorry, just the harsh reality of our world.

Because the optics in phone cameras are just so good.
A coupe of more tips:
Close the hood, trunk and all of the doors. Close them.
Get all of the extra people out of the shot. People can help a car photo or hurt it. If the people aren't helping the shot, either ask them to move or wait.
Is any part of the car cut off? We're good with Photoshop, but we can't create a missing corner of the car.
Thanks.
I can toss this out there. I have a D90 and like taking photos of cars. If anyone wants me to shoot there car for them up here in MA/southern NH let me know. It would be fun.
Yay, Dean. Really, this should be fun. Find a cool background. Clean up the car. Try some new angles. You know, go nuts.

I'm in RI, so I'm in your backyard.
I might have to take you up on this.

I have the same camera and would be willing to do this for people in the Louisville, KY/Southern IN area.
Submitting on the board, check.
Cut off bumper, check.
Blurry action shot, check.
Not even my car, check.
I violated all the rules! Stickin it to the Man! Attica! Attica!
Damn, see what I can do. My best photo is from one of the Tail of the Dragon photographers... Hoping it won't be a big deal to get his ok. (It ran in Modified Magazine & they never asked me.)

Just let me know. Again it would be fun to talk cars etc. Hell we should plan a NE get together to photo cars. We could get a bunch of the together and have fun. I even have a GRM banner or two from the Lemons race we won a couple years back.. . . . . Oh Wait did I say that? (They were easier to carry than nickels and more valuable)

Yes it would be fun.
I posted this some place else here but this is something of mine. By the way this is completely un edited. I use it on my FB page.
For those photoing cars
Try getting a 10/12 foot step ladder and taking photos looking at a more downward angle. Play with how the front tires are angled relative to the cars angle with respect to the camera angle. (Dam that is a lot of angles.)
I don't know if this is a shot that GRM would want but it presents very well and it cuts out a lot of the background issues many car photos have.

You also get bonus points for having a poor background that also includes people.
Bumper cut off, check. People and tires in background, check. But at least the story is mostly written.
X2 here. Missed out on the dork stickers first time round.
I would love to have my car in the magazine, but I don't think the magazine would like having my car in it
SnowMongoose wrote: If there were anything interesting about my car, I'd be all over this. Related question, is there any chance of another crack at DORK decals? or are my options custom dorkiness vs 'regular' GRM decals
Now that you mention it... I can make you look like a dork!
Head on over to the GRM Store and buy a UTCC windshield banner! They're like dork stickers, but way, way more annoying when stuck on the cars of strangers.

That issue comes up every now and then with us. For one, I see it as a basic courtesy. They own the rights, so is it okay for us to use the image?
It could also become a legal issue, too. Could we fight it? Maybe. Do we want to spend the time and money doing that instead of other stuff? Nope.
Here's how I look at it. If you buy a copy of the new Beatles cassette, do you have the rights to redistribute it?
But yeah, keep those cards and letters coming.

Don't put evil thoughts in my head! (I already have enough of those....)
Are you sure? They're only $15. And, since they're designed to be trimmed, they would look great on almost anything! Doors, appliances, your kids' toys, your dog, etc.
