i don't think someone from Australia is qualified to tell anyone from the USA how to properly utilize the King's English...

Because Aussie's speak English. Not Ametican.

Hell we even spell things in English.

I grin when the Jaguar commercial comes on, and wait for the apparently North American voiceover guy to say "Jag wahr".

Evidently, Jaguar, Porsche, Chevrolet, et al, are quite happy to take one's money without regard to one's pronunciation.

In reply to slantvaliant:

Wait, it's not pronounced "jag-wahr"?

If it is "Jag-you-wire", then where did all the extra syllables come from?

Thats because we dont need to. The USA is larger than Europe and has a common language. The largest country in continental Europe is smaller than Texas. Second largest smaller than California. As soon as you cross a border they speak a different language. Hell Belgium is about the size of New York and speaks four!

Heck, if a German and a Frenchman met at a cafe in Italy, they would probably end up speaking English to each other.

I didn't until you posted that and I looked it up. My response was (in really informal Japanese, e.g. "boku" instead of "watashi"):

"Thanks. I didn't know that."

(with a link to the wiki article on the Winds Code)

I'm sure that many who post here have a far better vocabulary and grammar, and could say this in a more sophisticated manner.

After working on my boss's '73 911, I still call it a glorified VW.
so I don't care how it is pronounced.

Certainly not me. You have just witnessed four of the five Japanese words I know...(FWIW I have a friend who can translate Japanese into Arabic in his head...)
