You can pick up a F1 trans 360 with 30-40k on that clock for 60-70k.
The F1 trans is the same trans as the manual, just hydraulically controlled. A few people have toyed with selling conversion kits as prices of the manuals have gone crazy. I think there is real opportunity here. Especially when you lookup the price of replacing the F1 pump.

7-8K for a new one not counting install. Couple places rebuilding them for ~1.5K to like new condition though which is what most people are doing. The F430 Coupe in a F1 transmission with say 30K miles you can get sub 80K if you look around for a good one. Put the scudira transmission software on it for free and its a significantly better car then the manual F430.

Chain motors as well with some slight header issues on the early cars that in most cases has been resolved. If someone ever offered enough to get the Viper out of my hands a F430 spider is what I would buy the next day.

That is not as hard for me to swallow since i have never yet been in a position to spend what they were worth at the bottom of the curve. Always out of reach is a little easier than 'you slept on it and your chance is gone'.

It was similar about 5 years ago or so for the 550. CMS did a "cars to watch" page on them saying good cars could be had for around $50K. Well, I never saw any that low, but I did see some in the 60's & 70's, which was just too far out of reach. Now those cars have asking prices nearly $200K or more.

So I fear my 18:1 die-cast will be the closest I'm going to get now. At least until there is some huge collapse in the collector car market - which I still think will happen when Baby Boomers really start to liquidate in 10-20 years.

I'm curious to see what this car sells for at Mecum later this month: 550 Maranello at Mecum Monterey as it's exactly what I want in color and interior, and with a manual transmission...
