Why does this appeal to me?

Add chunky tires, skid plates and a whip antenna and you'd have a full scale RC car. Manual/AWD combo is available...

I kinda like the early Rav4.

I saw one on cl with an alltrac swap (allegedly 380whp) a while back, that would've been a very fun sleeper!

I picked this one up in the spring for $900, and have since replaced the top, front bumper, RF axle, tires(General's), caught up all the TLC - and removed the craptastic 90's graphic. I really enjoy driving it, and the 2.0L gives it the power the earlier versions were missing. Looking forward to testing it out in some snow this winter!

You do know they were offered in Canada and other countries with a soft top back end, right?

It's unfortunate that all the little sport utes have gone away. They either were discontinued or just got fat and bloated.

Stock sized aggressive tires (or not, you're going to destroy them anyway) and you've got yourself a nice Back 40 styled vehicle. I approve.

I live in California and I have seen a few also.

Cameron Pettit (Pettit Racing) had a sneakily turbocharged 1st gen 2 door years ago. That thing would do high 13 second 1/4 mile times while looking totally stock.

It was a wonderful ambush machine---- if you could get it to hook up!

My wife has a 4-door 1st gen RAV4 5sp/AWD and I have been on the lookout for a two-door for myself for a good while. So you aren't the only one who thinks those are cool (in their own nerdy way).

And I have seen both soft-top and hard-top two doors here too. Don't know if that means they were sold in the U.S. or not, since we are less than 100 miles from Canada.

Early two doors with a manual are perpetually on my list. I'm not looking for one, but I'm watching. I kind of want to paint one the same blue as my wife's FJ cruiser and follow her around.
