Bought my 1998 Jimmy in the fall of 2018 with barely 100k on it. The water pump had been changed at some point by the previous owner and it began leaking out of the weep hole a few months after I bought it. Changed the pump and now 2 years and 15,000 miles later it appears to be leaking again. What the berkley is going on? Of course this had to happen when its 0 degrees outside.
If it's an aftermarket pump I would not be surprised.
Years ago I put NINE mother berkeleying water pumps on the same car, in less than 30 days.
I only buy NAPA pumps now.
Yeah, try a different vendor/brand.
Is it the 4.3L or the 4cyl?

Whoa - I'm liking coolant projects less and less as I get older.
Nine fricking water pumps......
In reply to Datsun310Guy :
Yeah, but a 4.3 water pump is a 30 minute job...
Buy a better pump. Probably do a good flush while the pump is off, just in case.
If not a pump quality issue then . . .
Are the pulleys properly aligned?
Are you using coolant or straight water?
Are there different pumps for your application if so are you being given the right one?

If serpentine belt is idler/tension pulley bad or out of alignment or over tensioning belt. If V belt is there too much tension on belt. Or as others have said spring for an OEM water pump.

Because they're berkeleying delicious!
Took one last look before heading over to Napa, it's the bypass hose that's leaking. It comes out of the top of the pump and is hard to see, the coolant ran down the back making it look like a defective pump. Fixed now.

Glad you fixed it. I would +1 on NAPA parts. I've done the water pump dance before with cheap pumps.
