Turns out the worlds fastest bmw looks a lot like a Pontiac
Pfft. There are BMW motorcycles that are faster than that. 242 mph. (I am impressed, don't get me wrong. The drag car does have a BMW engine.)

In the 1980s, BMW sued Pontiac for brand-dilution reasons because the grille on the new N-body Grand Ams looked too much like the BMW double-kidney.
I think Pontiac responded by giving the Grand Prix the same grille a few years later.
(A few years later, Saturn renamed the LS1/LS2 models the L100/L200/L300 because Toyota started whining. No word on if Toyota whined in Lincoln's direction, or if Mazda whined in Toyota's direction regarding the RX300)

Not sure which is more impressive: Accelerating to a given speed in a quarter mile, or accelerating to a given speed on salt, which has a coefficient of friction somewhere around wet snow on ice.

And I for one always thought that Grand-Am was a slick looking car in its own right and that nobody but a complete bufoon would confuse it with a BMW.

It’s a LOT better than that. But when you step on it for the first week, your brain says icy and snow.
But seeing a rider do that speed on the salt is amazing.
