We have been looking for a new car for the wife. One of the criteria is that the back seat must hold 3 adults comfortably for 2-3 hour trips. To test this we have made the salesman get in the back seat with us to check it out.

In the process of testing every mid-size car we could find the conclusion was that the Subaru Legacy was the most comfortable and had the most room in the back seat. We were looking at new cars so I am not sure how the older Legacy's measure up but you might take a look at them.

She won't even get near the E39 due to some stigma.

On the TReg, probably yes but she also counts my labor as free and I get parts at 10% over cost. Still no win there.

If she wants me in the garage, I have plenty of work to do on the race car, and she knows it!

Either that or she's trying to keep you in the garage for some reason.

3 kids? Maybe she's just trying to keep you out of the bedroom.

You're right, it's both. Sorry, but it's the truth man. Currently waiting on the very next time I need a vehicle to go P714Life.

Nah, this is a completely new answer........850 turbo brick

Transmissions strong in those Volvos?

Out of the bedroom? Perhaps. We are both Irish Catholic so we were never taught where babies come from, just that they happen often.

Thats alarming.

That's hilarious

I like the GS400 idea. I also like the 3.5 Maxima (2003 only, sorry but the 2004-up are fatass travesties) and I35.

I like the Avalon decently much (rear seat room is semi-shocking but they tend to have 10000000% grey interiors).

Oddly enough, a car i have only seen and driven once came into my mind here. A 3.3L/5spd auto ES330 in gunmetal with 'mesh/lace' wheels (some kind of rare package, limited edition or something, it had a badge). It was decent looking, nice interior, functional, fairly quick, and rare. I enjoyed driving it for the little bit that i did.

Daily should be sold tomorrow so its crunch time. There's a wholesaler I know that I am going to visit over the weekend. Hopefully there is something interesting. I have about a week before I'll just lease a leftover base Accord.

Serious. P71, less than 70k miles, ~$3k.

Then whatever you want on top of that.

How does it NOT make sense? Cobra R wheels are like $599 new, for some homemade marauder badness...

All the p71s I have seen local go for way more... or I am not looking in the right place.

Looked at a beat 04 Jetta tbats a possibility just due to cheapness and my pile of spares being complimentary.

Started looking at some e46s online and they show promise.

Honestly, i wouldnt buy any jetta in that body style short of a GLI, unless it was a TDI.

a guy on my facebook today was complaining about replacing some kind of power window parts on his mom's e46 for the 4th time.

Tdi's command stupid money and I dont drive enough where it would make financial sense. Torque is cool until it runs out ;)

Gli autos are stupid rare unfortunately.

Date with an e39 540i and a "mint" 59k Jetta. Another date with a sprt pkg equipped 03 330i on thurs and a 01 325xi on Friday.

Hopefully I find something that doesnt suck!!

Some E46's to run down still but widening the search to include the I30/35, Maximas, 3.2TL and general blandsmobiles just in case. Gotta get something on Sat at the latest.

I really like the '02-03 Maxima with the 6spd... Fuel economy isn't as good as you might expect, but it's a great car...

Done.

03 325i black on grey, sport/premium/cold/hk/xenon.. auto

Passed dealer's check at 9/10 with no big isses other then a missing recall service.

Drives like butter, plenty of power for what it needs to do. Will be happy until I have to fix something!

Thanks again for everyone's advice.

Good call... If it has 100k do the transmission flush or start looking for a 5 speed swap. If it has 150k and has never been flushed then you might want to weigh your options.
